Running without bov

I've first hand seen broken throttle bodys from not running a BOV. Imagine what it does to your turbo.

so really you risk failing turbo, and a failing TB which ultimately causes a ruined engine because pieces of your TB fell into it. Not a huge price to pay for some imaginary "throttle response".

I talked with nashman about this awhile back, he did some research and some turbo manufacturers state their turbos can handle the pressure surge from running no bov. Obviously it won't work on a CT26, but people should talk to actual turbo manufacturers before saying it is/is not ok to do...

What manufactures and turbos? Fitted for a gasoline engine application?

After a while that valve just stays open.

So i stand corrected. It does bypass; just 100% of the time.

These cars are 20 years old now. I think the BPV met there benchmark.


Do you think this thread can be closed before some poor sapp thinks its a good idea and ruins his turbo/throttle body/engine like hottscennessey pointed out.

Buick Grand Nationals run without BOV's...

there are some turbos with anti surge housings, but I'm not sure how well they work..

so just run a stock BOV, or upgrade it to a Bosch, and all will be well..

I think it was Precision Turbo with the anti-surge housings that we were talking about, but there may be others. I also wouldn't do this on a stock throttle body, aftermarket ones (BBK, etc) may be able to deal with the abuse.

Folks, if you are using drag racing as to why not BOV, I will counter with WRC, IMSA, Porsche Cup racing. All of them use BOV. Even on a sequential transmission equipped car.
