What ended up being your problem suprahero? I know you were in the mid to high 3's and were looking at timing, fuel, and some other grimlens. NICE numbers!

The first problem that I found was a bad vacuum leak behind the intake. I fixed it at the dyno and made approximately 40 rwhp on the very next pull. After that I just gave it a good tuning and adjusted the cam gears a little. I still don't have them degreed, but it runs good enough for me at the moment.

Sorry for the hijack.............Jay

what needs to be done to take the 1J to 8k, and still make descent power?
cams, springs, retainers, ECU, boost, and fuel?

I have stock ECU, springs, retainers. I don't know if my car would handle 8000rpm or not. I've always shut it off on the dyno at 7200.

to make good power to 8k.. 272 cams (now small core 272s as they are like 264s)... I'm not sure when the head & intake ports will cut into flow.. I have yet to see any dynos with hks 272 or similar cams to see where the powerband is.. you could rev to 8k on a 264 cams, but it wont make much power (i think jza70 on sf dynoed his to 8k or so dont remember waht the graph looked like though up there..

I come from a land down under
Limiting factor will be the turbo.

If it can't pump enough air at reasonable temps power will drop off rapidly this is of course assuming the rest of the combination is up to the task.

I thought the stock springs were good to 8500?
It's dependant on boost pressure too. The more pressure in your intake manifold, the more pressure trying to push the valve open. This would be why Ric can take it up past 8 at half throttle, but it floats earlier at full throttle.

When I was stock twins, 8500 at WOT was the limit. Now its 7800 at WOT at just 12psi. I can't imagine what 18psi will do when i tune for that this weekend (yes, tranny swap finally taking place)

65mm single. It's lower because of the higher force on the valves. Trust me, floating the valves on a 1JZ does NOT sound good. Thank god its a non interference motor.

1JZ's have useable power to 9500 with a correctly matched turbo and Jun cams, good springs, and retainers. Past 10, at least with the jun's and a stock head, there wasnt anything.
