Hello All,
Well Supras have sucked me back in for now. I bought a 99 gt vert after i sold the 91 supra and would still have the mustang except for the uninsured, unlicensed red light runner totalling it on my 2nd month of ownership...

I found this 86.5 targa turbo 5spd 1jz nearby that was restored and at a good price. As soon as i Drove it i couldnt resist it. I dont know how long i can keep it with recent developments but I am going to try...esp if my F250 TD sells.

The chassis started life off as an 86.5 sport package: tems, targa, and 4:30's - i hope its an LSD but it revs quick and revs high at interstate cruise.

The Previous owner and his kids replaced:
leather on seats,
Carpet
swapped in the 1j
installed new shocks
painted it (paint is really nice.
new tires...ugg...on the sawblades.
new brakes,
1j was rebuilt
Blitz bov
Intake
various gaskets
3" y pipe back exhaust with generic yet oddly amazing muffler

I have since:
Tinted the windows
installed springs
purchased some decent 17" cobra rims to eventually go on.
Nash's PHENOMENAL shifter
thermal exhast tip to generic muffler
painted generic muffler high temp back

I dynoed the car and got
235rwhp and 245rwtq on a dynojet - PIG rich at 11.5lbs boost

Going to make or buy a manual boost controller and up the boost a little to hopefully lean it out some.

Near future plans:
I am going to replace the crappy chrome antenna with a generic power antenna - next weekend i hope.
Mount and wire my bazooka.
Buy and install a manual Boost controller.
Oil Change!

Near but yet farther off plans:
Replace master and slave cylinders they are leaking a little bit and appear original.

Decide whether to sell or mount my boost gauge and wide band kit.
If Sell or trade the 3 gauge pillar pod for a 2 gauge pod or just install the gauges in the center console or on the steering column.

Cheap and Supras, generally don't mix. My suggestion is to save a few pennies and do your tune right.I don't see anything as far as tuning in your mods list. What are you planning on using? You may want to start there. ;)

Right there is no tuning yet the car was bought pretty much as it sits right now after they finished the restore and swap. I need to figure out a gameplan for mods, and have some ideas, but really need to get the tune better than it is right now at least in the interim. I am way too rich. I need to post up the dyno to show how much extra fuel its blowing out the exhaust, i think it was sub 10.

I dont plan on going all baller like you, Ij, or ronr unless work decides to double my pay or the wife gets a J O B again. But i do like the idea of a really good piggyback system or a decent standalone that can control boost, fuel, etc over a combo with a neo and the like cluttering up my interior.

Was wondering if an AFPR and manual boost controller is even worth it for now. or just keep running rich and wait for a stinger, ems etc.

Im being good on this car unlike the last two supras for now and will just finish off a few interior and exterior cosmetics, rim change and then start spending more money. But end of road will probably just be Big brakes, DM , fuel upgrades/computer, Dm 60-1 single and not much more. Im happy in the 450-500 reliable rwhp range for a bit again.

you're an 86.5 targa Ian?

and roundfinger.........our cars were twins, mine was the exact same till i painted it

I may repaint this one once i get 89+ mirrors, an 86.5-88 aftermarket lower lip, and maybe an 89+ wing.

IJ the only thing remotely like your car and our 86.5's is that it was made by toyota in 86.5 and has a targa...ive read most of all of your build threads...Good stuff all around btw.

Ordered a manual boost controller as stock boost isn't enough.

Will go ahead and install the wideband kit i have as well if i can figure out where or how i want to mount it. Dont think i want to do the a-pillar, but might if i can trade out my 3 pillar for a two pillar.

Does anyone make a blank to replace the ashtray with gauges?

Decided I need to pick up a set of dowards brake kit brackets and lines as soon as i can (probably next month) and may test a set of willwood or brembo calipers on the front for fitment. With appropriate larger rims of course.

Figuring out a few other things i want to do to this car. Still not satisfied with the drop/stance/ride. May swap out the shocks to illumina II's and find the smaller tems actuators and hook that back up i liked my previous setup. Also oddly been attracted to an air ride system but for the $ dont think its worth it, and i def dont want to low ride it.

I haven't seen the ashtray blank before, but I have seen many people (including myself) mount their SAFC where the ashtray was.

Going to hunt down some new tires for my old set of cobra rims and get rid of the sawblades hopefully this weekend.

As well as do some regular maintenance - oil change for starters.
install the manual boost controller!
Maybe tackle the antenna replacement and get a generic power one in there.
investigate my front end options - its too high.

If i can sell some of my old yet NIB mustang parts....get a shine front lip. Although they dont make the one i want for the pre 89s's :(

Well i was going to get some tires for my old mustang cobra wheels and throw them on to replace the sawblades but i found a good deal on some 17" 99+ gt wheels and tires that i can use instead for a bit...Problem is they are painted black for now. Will check them out first maybe repaint them. Or swap rims and put the cobras on.

OIL CHANGE must be done this weekend!!!!

Had a weird vibration on start yesterday... was there again today. I dont like. Not really noticeable when driving. Clutch pedal needs to be adjusted as well...let out is WAY towards the top.

Worked a lot of OT the last few weeks time to work on car!
