Rough Idle, stalling etc

Hey I have a GTE with BPU's running 10.5psi on BC. New plugs/wires.

When I had the car last serviced by Toyota, they mentioned that my distributor seals were gone and that it will eventually not start or die on the road due to oil getting into the ignition coil.

I'm not the most engine technically inclined person, but when my car started running like crap and having trouble starting...I started looking into what the mechanic was talking about. The TSRM has an ignition coil that sends spark through wires etc etc...I have no idea to what the mechanic was referring to. The only distributer I saw was that for a 7mGE moter. They quoted me 600 bux on just the part from Toyota.

So my questions are:

1) Can someone clarify what my mechanic was referring to (he retired and is no longer at the dealership, and there is no one there to really replace him).

2) Is there a better performance part I can put in for as much or less money that the $600 the dealer quoted me on?

3) can I just put in a used part, if I can find the correct replacement, or is that not advised due to the mileage of any other car the part likely came off of?

4) could this be another problem?

If I am just an idiot, feel free to flame away, I just want some pointers if anyone can throw some at me.

gte only has coil packs and no distributor. Any CEL codes also have you checked your timing??? Maybe he was talking about the CPS seal.

No Check eng light or codes.

Yep CPS is the cam position sensor. It is by the pwr steering resv. and has a black plastic cover over it w/ three screws. This is also notorious for leaks and controls your timing. If this is loose...could throw your timing off and cause it to stall/bog. Also check all vacuum lines for leaks.

Okay, took apart the ignition coil pack, number 1 (brand new) wire is all chewed through from the cover rubbing on it i would expect. The 3 plugs that run to the ecu were also in pretty rough shape, all breaking as I removed them. I've got these on order and hopefully put it all back together and everything will be fine.

If not, I'll have to do the cam sensor...but that's $675 so hopefully I won't have to go that route.

How much of a pain is it to change the cam P sensor? TSRM shows it not that hard, anyone with experience changing this?
