The verdict is in: Rod Knock
Disconnected the 5th spark plug lead and the knocking went away.
Now the new question is, can the oil pan be taken out without pulling the engine or crossmember?

You beat me to it! My internet was down last night, I couldn't post. But what Superium said. We unplugged #5, and it was quiet. Any ideas, without having to pull the motor completely out?? Since theres no metal in the pan, i might have gotten lucky here.

Just pull it.

Do it once, do it right.

Take the harness out of the glove box and remove the engine/trans together.

Of courseif you like the idea of having the engine suspended above you while you're doing all of this work under the car with nothing thereto stop it *since you have to remove the X-member*

It can be done though, I guess.

Just my $.002
