Could also be a lifter making the noise. a little bit of a description would help out a lot. Where's it coming from? Is it a higher or low pitched sound?

I'd say it was a lifter, of course not having heard it I couldn't really say. Try running a bit (1/4 of a qt or so) of ATF in your oil (if you think it may be a lifter) it'll fix that right up. JSpec7m88 had the same kind of deal w/ his car and we did that, I don't think it's making noises anymore, and I know for a fact it fixed my Cressida right up.

If you take the wire off and run it (no spark in the cyl), does it still do it?

Yeah, like he said. Have someone sit in your car and hold the RPM's at 2500. That's the point where you hear the knock right? One by one unplug a spark plug wire. Check if the noise went away. Plug it back in and check another wire. Do that until the knock goes away. If it does go away then more than likely you have a rod knock in that cylinder that you unplugged the spark plug wire. If the knock did not go away then it's coming from somewhere else.

we pulled out all the plugs and wires and re did it. it went away. i guess maybe them being out of order unbalanced it and made the sound. but it still idles high. im pretty sure my linkage is sticking cause when i pull it back the idle goes down to normal. but i tried spraying it with lub and no help...and ideas?

Matt, it still does it very lightly, but not like before. I also held my RPMs @ 2500 and pulled the plugs and the sound continued so I'm pretty sure it is/was a lifter. Maybe I need to put some ATF in again? I dunno...Maybe I'll go pull them all and make sure they're in order!!!!!

when my motor had a rod knock it would rev to 2500rpms and start knocking and then fade away now the rod is on my work bench and there is a whole in the side off my block. if i where you i would take the oil pan off and put new bearing in it. there only about 50-100 dollars for new oem ones. and it really easy to do. thats my help

it doesnt do it at any certain rpm now.....just right when you tap the throttle, that moment it takes for the RPMs to rise, it makes a few clunks then goes away......and same thing when the RPMs stop to go back down to idle....idk if i explained this clear enough.

Do you know the difference in sound between flame front collision(knock) and a spun bearing(knock)?
