i am planning on doing rod bearings on my supra very soon.. i dont have the budget currently to do a full bottom end rebuild unfortunatly. but i need to have this car running asap. my plan was to kinda go at it a different way so as to avoid taking the motor completely apart. i was going to take out the spark plugs to remove compression. then drop the crossmember and the oil pan, and possibly the oil pump, and just do the bearings one at a time. i know this isnt the correct way to do it. but im hardpressed for time and money right now... is there anything i should really worry about doing it this way? im guessing they wont last too long, but if it gets 6 months. im ok with that, ill have money by then. any input would be great. the main thing im worried about is if the crank is scored how much that will affect the new bearings.. thanks guys.

Do you have rod knock?

If you do that dont forget to hold the engine up when you drop the cross member.

ya if your going to go that route i would suggest finding another crank to slap in with new bearings and you might be able to get away with it other than that you need a rebuuld.

Shit that sounds bad. Ive heard of a couple people doing it that way and getting away with for a while. However know that every supra is different and that might not work for you. Just my .02

i have faith in liz. i think she'll pull through for a little while with just new bearings. im planning on saving up about 2k for the rebuild. nothing too crazy, eagle h beams, maybe .020 over wiseco's, acl bearings, maybe an hks stopper, i may throw some better valve springs in the head, maybe dual springs haha. yea i know that knock is bad, but i am so happy that she runs again, i was running around and dancing like a retard lol. it was pretty funny. all thats left to put together is the trans mount and the driveshaft. cant wait

sorry to say but expect to see something along the lines of this when you see the crank...

Better save more than that :icon_bigg, if your doing things right youll spend half that on just machine work, especially with head work

you may quet things down a bit with new bearings but I doubt it will last long as bad as it sounds. If your going to do all that work why not pull it right, have the crank ground or source a new one and get new bearings, It would be just as fast other that time sourcing parts and machine work, just my .02

And if the crank is bad, your Frocked!!
You can't get it out without taking off the crank pulley, front covers, flywheel, and rear seal carrier.
So in other words, save yourself some unnecessary work, and just take the engine out in the first place.

Or leave it, wait until the rod removes it's self through the side of the block :aigo:

my car does not have knock, but i want to put in some new rod bearings to be safe for my na-t. if the crank checks out, is it safe and acceptable to do this?

i am eventually going to do a full rebuild not half ass, i dont half ass anything, but i just need to drive it about 200 miles soon, and i really dont think the current bearings will make it. after i get it in and i get some cash further down the line i will get it right, but right now i have to work with what i got. Thanks Guys

if its not knocking why put new bearings in. its the n/a high comp pistons you'll have to worry about.
