I have a 7mgte and this is the 2nd motor to be installed in my mk3, and the 3rd time it is being rebuilt! I bought the car from a friend (the 2nd. person to rebuild the motor)! I noticed that when I disassembled the motor he didn't put it together right! The marks at the top of the pistons were all in random order instead of all facing the front of the motor, and all the connecting rods/ends were randomly put together. I need to know which way the rods face and whice way the rod ends face. One side of the rod has 1 bump, the other side has none... one side of the end cap has 3 bumps and the other side only has 1! So I need to know if the side on the rod with 1 bump faces the front or rear, and the same with the end cap...
I need to know which pix are correct and which way the face (front or rear)?
Here are some pix of what I am asking about:

Rod knock? Sometimes you have to do it like CSI, and line up the machine marks. It can be done it just takes a moment to actually look at it.

I thought you meant the cap to the correct rod. I guess I didn't read your post close enough. Your caps don't have numbers and arrows?

Usually on the sides(the narrow sides not shown in your pics) there are 'Z' shaped punch marks across the rod and end caps.
That should help you reorient the pieces.

1 and 1 (first two pics are correct) and the side with the markings (first pic) faces the front. One thing to keep in mind is bearing alignment tangs almost always go on the same side like they are in the first pic

Thank you very much... This has saved me a headache and time! And to the people replying about stamps in the rods or caps... they are stamped but the person who did it messed it up pretty bad, you can't even make out what is shows... but I labeled all the rods and caps so they go back in the same cylinder.
