This is just a thread to document some of the changes I am making to my car for the winter to get it classed and to fix some reliability issues and most importantly get the weight down. there is going to be a ton of pictures most without descriptions so if you need something clarified just ask or just try to figure it out. my goals this winter are to remove the FFIM and go back to stock manifold layout. Im also switching the intercooler out with a smaller stock style intercooler. also i am removing the smaller of the two oil coolers. all this is an effort to save weight. also the fiberglass bumper will be removed and a stock one fitted in place. ill update this with more pictures as time goes on.

feel free to ask any questions about the car or about racing mk3s in general. ive been racing supras for over 5 years now so i have run into alot of the common issues.

instead of changing the ic and intake manifold setup, why not just switch over to aluminum piping?

good luck on the project.

The class i run has a power to weight limit. running a modified intake manigold costs points which increases the minimum weight of my car. therefore anything on the car that does not give me significant weight gains is coming off. naturally switching ICs comes with switching the manifolds. i dont have a tig welder yet and done trust any shops to touch my car so i made my ics pipes out of U bend steel because it was the easiest.

Also one thing to note is any one building a race car, have as few couplers as possible. my setup only had 4. i am considering running V bands next year. I should have a tig welder as soon as a graduate next may so my pipes will start steel next year and switch to aluminum part way through

Looks like a modified 7m intake mani blown in from one end.
wouldn't that create uneven flow to cylinders?:1zhelp: you might be better
off going stock.

pretty common mod a couple of years ago i belive sethtron was the first to do it and he did a flow test and it didnt flow horribly. i put a large radius on the bottom of the pipe to manifold area before it as finished welded so the flow has a nice smooth gradual path to cylinder one. regarless like i said a stock one is going back on.

I will be scoping the motor this week in hopes to find why I have so much blow by. Hopefully ill be able to video the scope so everyone can see

why stock manifold and why stock ic? just curious.

not a stock intercooler but a stock configuration intercooler like a spearco drop in. and the way nasa racing is setup modifications cost points and a +2 for a intake modification is not worth it because a FFIM does not make me any more horsepower. that +2 is 30lbs i could pull out of the car

Seems logical enough! Great work, I look forward to reading the updates!

last time across the scales with 3/4 tank and me in it, it was 3409 lbs. i have not finished calculating my race weight for next year but the car will need to be less than 3200 lbs with me in it so i can add ballast. alot of that weight was tied up in the 17X9 wheels and 275s that were on the car. switching to either 17X8 or 16X8 and 245s will save me more than 50 lbs. add in 5-8 lbs for a flywheel and i have a good head start before i start getting to frisky with stuff

Just curious wouldnt it have been better to start with a hardtop car? or does it not matter once you put a cage in it?

yes of course. however i didnt have a hard top shell laying around. however the targa will be welded in and all the excess metal stripped so its not a huge deal at this point. but yes you should always start with a hard top car

alright long time no updates. heres what happened ended up building two supras for some friends and my car just sat outside getting snowed on. its back inside now and work has begun. due to time constraints i will not be switching back to factory manifolds and such.

here is my current list of work

install front and rear poly bushings
re install manifold and intercooler
remove right side cooler re plumb oil system with new filter mount
order custom catch can from http://www.saikoumichi.com/
I am ditching the side exit exhaust setup and sending it out the back to make work under the car easier.
