reusing stock rod bolts for a rebuild?

Stock rod bolts are fine, as long as they haven't been stripped or damaged in any other way. STREACHING IS FINE! you people dont know what you are talking about. You could go arp or new bolts, but it would just we a waste of money, no benefit. A bolt is supposed to stretch.

You apparently don't know much about bolts if you're trying to tell him that. If the the bolts have hit their elasticity limit they WILL NOT hold torque values the same way they would originally.

A bolt or stud is suppost to stretch, correct on that part. That's how the clamp is achieved. Do you realize how important of a role the rod bolt plays? One of the most important bolts in a motor in my opinion. They are constantly stressed throughout the RPMs. And you want to reuse a stock rod bolt with god knows how many miles on it?

If your teacher doesn't own a SUPRA I wouldn't listen to a damn thing he says, if you listen to him then i see BHG in your future. It already a proven fact ARP is the right way to go especially when changing your HG. Saying it's a waste of money is prolly the dumbest thingsI've ever heard.
Reusing your stock bolts with ???milage is madness.
I don't know how you can say the people on here don't know what there talking about... when im sure they been working on the motors way longer than you have and have way more experience with these motors.

Ryan, if someone already has the engine torn down, the extra cost of the ARP hardware and machine work to install it is worth the insurance value for most.

Everyone else - who has seen a failed rod bolt in a rebuilt 7M? I know I haven't, and I've seen a lot of 7Ms, so the likelihood is looking rather slim. Rod bolts don't suffer near the stress of many components, their max stress is on the off stroke - so when the crank is dragging the piston rather than the other way around.

on the topic of bottom ends, would it be fine to reuse the nut? Since its the bolts thats meant to stretch correct?

just wanted to make a quick post to kinda refocus anyone jumping in on the thread

what this discussion is about is the connecting ROD studs. not the head bolts. im not that cheap i have studs, actually this wholw build im doing i have really not skimed any corners. i simply did not consider the rod bolts before i assembled the engine had i, i would have replaced the studs because it would have been easy. the issue is the bottom end is already assembled

I reused the stock rod bolts for 3 years now without any problems.

But I think if i had the chance again before i would have just used ARP bolts.
Its not very expensive and while the block is apart, might has well do it.
