I am in need of a clutch, and I'm trying to replace it with something to hold 400+/-HP. I have a great deal on an almost brand new ACT 6-Puck from Suprahero, and I plan on using a stock pressure plate. I feel like that should hold, because I'm probably gonna be on the low side of that 400.

My question is

1. Should I resurface the pressure plate and/or the flywheel?

2. Am I right in thinking this set up should hold my power?

I'd never resurface a plate but that's me....I'd get a new plate and resurface the flywheel.....and I doubt it will hold 400 hp very long on a stock pp

I very well be talking out my ass....but in my mind I see resurfaceing the plate will reduce clamping pressure as it loses a bit of travel if your picking up what I'm laying down...

PP is the second wear item, and it's not just from the friction, the diaphram wears. I'd at least get a new stock PP...

Get the flywheel machined, not turned on a lathe. need to have it machined to look lik this (also note the backstep is machined as well, it wasn't machined when a shop did the clutch before me, wonder why it burnt up...dumbasses)

Slight correction...machining is the process useing machines to cut material...cutting on a lathe is still a "machine finish...or machine'd"...you want the flywheel "ground" not "turned"(turning is what a lathe does)...

Now excuse me as I have to get back to my lathe and stop messin around on the forum LOL.

Umm not it's not, it's the disk. ARZ was holding over 400 wheel on his 7m 240z with a stock pp.
Not to say you shouldn't upgrade anyway :D

Time is of the essance and he doesn't have time to get a stock pp. We're going to drop his transmission tomorrow night at around 11:00 pm. We have a supra meet saturday at 9:00 so he'll have to wait to get the pp replaced. He's going to also order another upgraded clutch disc.

Hey, get your damn car put together! You won't be allowed to touch it tomorrow night.

I got a Pilot bearing tonight. I may be able to get a pressure plate from O'reilley's tomorrow, IDK. I also plan to swap my plugs on my lunch hour tomorrow, and attempt to leave a little early from work to get on the road.

like I said earlier...it will probably hold but just not forever...should get you by for a meet....I'd limit clutch dumps and only get in it while from a roll.

A bran new disk "should" be broke in...but in your case I doubt that used/resurfaced pp will last long enough as I'm sure alot of material would need to be removed.

There will be no racing, as I have not got the car tuned. I just need a decent car for daily driving for now. If there is a cruise up in the hills of Birmingham, I need a clutch that will allow me to climb a hill. What I have is slipping a good bit.

Check the pilot bearing, if it's fine leave it alone...

It's too much damn work to remove if it's fine, and you don't have the time.

Pilot bearing is in the crank :D

The throwout bearing assembly is a million times easier with the proper tools (which i bought from sears). Normal snapring piers break, you need lock ring pliers. And it MUST be assembled EXACTLY as show in the TSRM or it will fail.

boy do I feel stupid now...thought he meant throw out...

Damn I really wish I made a bunch of the tool I made to remove my pilot...I'd send one over night to him!

That tool made it super easy to remove the bearing with grease.....if I had another bearing to measure I'd make a shit load of them now and sell them for $5

Ive been using a sprung 6-puck feramic with a fresh toyota PP and a resurfaced flywheel. And have been told that should support me around 400hp......of course im not really hard on it either
