I was searching for a replacement for the cast elbow on my 7m and found this. Has anyone used it? Does it even help? or is it just a waste of money?

Most people just get a downpipe with that part in it. Most of the downpipes that don't replace the elbow neck down at the elbow flange so they're not truely 3"

The only really worthwhile upgrade to the turbo elbow is eliminating it, by installing a downpipe that runs from the back of the turbo to the cat and eliminates that 90* angle, as made by Titan Motorsports, BIC, etc. I don't see much point in upgrading to a stainless steel elbow; it may look nicer and weigh a little less but that's it...

edit: beat me to it

I'm running one of those, they're referred to as Divorced Downpipes. The one you have pictured is also recirculated, there are open wastegate ones too, but they make a lot of noise compared to the recirculated style.

I like mine and it performs well, but it's a PITA to install and remove.

Be careful ordering those downpipes as there is supposed to be a divider on them that divides the wastegate from the normal exhaust but some of those chinaman pipes are missing them!

are you talking about the metal gasket/spacer that goes between the waste gate and the stock cast elbow?

Look back at the picture of the DDP that you posted: the thin, flat piece of metal in the downpipes opening separates the wastegate flow and exhaust gas flow coming from the turbine. If that piece isn't there, or isn't in the proper place (too far back) the DP will flow at less than its potential.

No

look at my BIC downpipe...it has a tab in the middle of the flange....that needs to be present in these type downpipes but chinaman pipes are hit or miss

I used it with my HKS downpipe. No problems. Just dont use the included gaskets or hardware.

This is just my experience, other people have had issues with chinaman shit like that.

P.S. Regarding the extra bung that is blocked off with a bolt. Dont even think of parking a wideband 02 there. You will cook it to death in just a few months.

it looked to me like it might be used as a exhaust pressure test port so you dont have to take out the O2? possible not sure though

elbows are a waste....they solve half of the problem. save up and buy a quality downpipe and correct that whole area of the exhaust for good.

get it from a reputable, supported vendor on this site and you can be sure that it will fit correctly. BIC and raptor racing carry excellent divorced downpipes and stand by their products. buy from them, not ebay. You get what you pay for.

Infact, those ebay pipes are POOR copies of either the BIC downpipe or the raptor downpipe and there have been several posts i've seen about horrible fitment. Randy (BIC) and George (Raptor) both invested a lot of time and money designing, fabricating, jigging and testing these things for the community. It only makes sense to buy from them to encourage more part development, and you can be sure it will fit!

i dont see how those elbows WONT get the job done?...they gotta be twice as good as the stocker. i mean for 70 bucks its worth a shot in my opinion. i already have 3" from the stock elbow back, if i put a stainless on it, what gains will i expect? will it help spool up and boost? or are all these guys right that i wont get anything out of it but weight

It will make a big difference and will help speed up spool times and all that...it's just not AS good as what you COULD get but indeed better than stock!

And anybody worried about adding a few pounds to a supra seriously needs to be ignored as a credible source of info....most people who bitch about weight are the kids who wear there hats cocked to the side and have the spiked hair in the front, yet their cars have never broke the 300hp barrier and remove an egr system cause it "reduces power":3d_frown:

I'm betting that your downpipe is NOT 3" at the flange where it mounts to the elbow since 99% of the downpipes are knock-offs of the HKS one (that and it wouldn't seal with the stock gasket)

I run a LIPP elbow + RT Racing Downpipe. Price wise this combo used to be comparable to a BIC SP61GT DDP. Now those LIPP elbows have went up about $40 since i bought mine. I definetly look into a BIC DP or DDP.The standard is cheaper than my rt and replaces the elbow and the ddp is slightly more expensive and also replaces the elbow where as i have to buy the elbow separately for the rt downpipe, which now cost an additional $210 on top of the price of a downpipe, ouch
