It should all still be available from toyota. I bought new rear outer wells (the fender well has two halves) for around $180 each. As for the quarter panels, I had a member on this board (tubbie) take them off a rust-free parts car of his (by drilling out the spot welds) and send them to me. This was far cheaper than getting them new from toyota. You can see the progress in the thread in my signature.

Well I don't know of anybody that sell aftermarket replacement panels. But your best bet is either. Custom. Salvage yard. See if Toyota has replacements. Or buy a donor car. One thing I would never use. But when in doubt BONDO!

Hmmmm.. Didnt know you could buy the half wells. I'm pretty sure there not in the best shape either so that is good to know. I found a link on toyotaworld.com that has a link to find body panels.. What kind of confuses me is that they come in turbo and non turbo. The only difference I can think of would be the spoiler mounting holes. Any ideas?

the spoiler mounting holes are one of the differences between the rear quarters. (possibly targa too...not sure about that though)

have a look at this site:

I've got the rear rot bad as well, and my Toyota dealer said they cant find any rear quarters anymore. I'm purchasing a parts car atm with a rust free rear end to fix the damage, you could try a salvage yard but I found it was cheaper just to get a whole shell than to nitpick at a salvage yard.

contact champion toyota in houston and they will tell you if the parts are actually available.

Can't say I'm surprised, but for the ammount the front fenders cost new, the ammount the rears would cost would be the equivilent of an entire parts car; which is why I'm just going that route and getting my metal from there, besides ofcourse the rust wont be isolated to just the outside sheet metal as I'm sure you're aware of seeing as you've already done what I'm doing now.

I've had my 88 for 15 years now. 9 years ago I had a body shop work on the body rot which they did. Lasted about 3 years until the bondo started bubbling up. I learned my lesson by never having a body shop repair body rot and if you want something done right you have to do it yourself. Then about 4 years ago I kept getting water in the back of my hatch. Having rot in the wheel well that i eventually could stick my arm through could have been the problem. I purchased a mig welder and learned the ropes of cutting out rust until you have good metal to weld too. Thats been holding up like a champ, but the body rot outside just makes me sad ;(. So since I can hopefully buy the wheel well halves, and body panels brand new, which looks like it will run me about 1800, I think its well worth it to keep my baby alive. Now if I can find someone who has a rust free shell, I might reconsider. I just think the odds of finding one with no rust is slim.

I'd say search around craigslist etc. for a shell in good condition to get metal off of; because there's almost certainly going to be more rot than the replacement panels (if you can still get them) can cover.

Update:
I went and visited a toyota dealer yesterday and they looked up the rear quarters for all dealers and warehouses in the country with none in stock. My luck. They said my only chance was aftermarket or salvage. Anyone have a pristine shell from lets say... Arizona? This is going to suck.

I have to go back to the dealer to pick up parts whenever they show up. I'll have them look those up too.

thanks,

Update:
Dealer looked up body panels for non and non turbo versions with none in stock in the country. The wheel well halves part numbers are not even valid anymore so double screwed. Looks like a parts car is the only choice. If anyone has some spare rear body panels sitting around and needs some cash in this tough economy, send me a pm :)
later,
jamieC
