Interested in responses as well, I'm looking to jump on this bandwagon because in case of fire or robbery which is more likely the coverage would be extremely helpful.

I'd assume the car would only be covered if parked in a garage included on the lease.

Last i looked into it renters insurance was only ~ $30 a month depending on variable conditions.

My parents are renting in California right now, they have renters insurance, and their $1,500 road bikes were stolen. Replacement insurance ftw, they now have two great new bikes.

I've got it through State Farm, and I honestly believe its worth it.... Right now I think I have $35,000 in coverage, and its about $30 a month. Just talk to the insurance agent, and he/she will ask you questions about what kind of things you have, and come up with a number from there.

Also, take pictures of everything, and keep them in a safe spot in case you're ever called on what was taken/destroyed.

<<Considering it as well.

I have a bunch of tools, guitar equipment and my car. That's about it, but I'd be so damn pissed if any of it were to be stolen/damaged. For 30/month I may get signed up.

I have insurance through statefarm for 12 bucks a month. Lots of coverage. Don't remember the total value but we determined it would cover ALL of my stuff and then some if I ever needed to use it.

i would deff get it, its cheap and well worth with it. you can usually get through your automotive insurance carrier.

i rented a house once and didnt get it, well needless to say i went on vacation and got $10000 worth of tools stolen from me. they were never found and i didnt have renters insurance.

Ask your agent for a combined car/renters policy, similar to a.homeowners/car combined policy. Years ago I used a local company who shopped among the major companies for me and it was silly cheap. :)

I think I paid $20/month for 50k... $240 for the year I rented and I didn't have to worry if the place burnt to the ground...

Cheap peace of mind, imo

Definately worth it..... Call up Garret Callaway, hes the State Farm agent I have my renter's insurance through, and his office is in Denver off of 120th. Good guy.

Can't think of his number right now though... Sorry.
