removing the 1J head

Just wondering if anyone has seen the removal sequence and what it is and also what is the size and type of allen for those Head bolts they look like some fort of 12 point allen?

It isn't to bad to remove just make sure you get the allen all the way in the hole and that you don't twist anything off.

that can be hard to find and make sure you get a good one not a off brand easy broken Tawin one

so it's a 12mm not a 10 like it says in that translated manual?

It said the same thing in the 2jz manual but my 2jz was a 12mm. Again buy that tool from Snap-on or some other high end tool dealer. I shredded the teeth on a Pep Boys brand 12mm 12 point torque.

I ordered one from toyota japan. That was a fail .

I found a set of the 12pt allens in summit's tool catalog. For much cheaper than I payed for the one socket.

Edit: my boss threw away the catalog so I don't have the part number.. if you call them I'm sure they can look it up. I can't find it on the website.

lol neither did I the first time. Infact I didn't even notice it was 12 pt until the head was off.. then i was very thankful. The second time i tried to wing it and stripped out a headbolt :cry:. I drilled at it for about 5 hours before it popped off.. nothing like learning the hard way :sarcasm:

Well i finally got my hands on a Snap-On 12 pt 12mm Allen it attached to a socket wrech 1/2 inch drive lets hope that it can stand the test

5hrs? Took me about 10 minutes to drill one out that I fucked up :dunno:

Well Definitely Snap-On FTW went well and all is good got the head off and was surprised how much carbon build up i saw man that engine runs rich LOL. I'll snap some pictures if anyone wants a look
