Ok, I have an 87' n/a Supra and I'm looking to buy block off plates for my EGR system from SupraSport. Other than putting the block off plates on, and removing some vacuum lines, what will I need to do? Will I still need the VSV for the EGR, or can I take that off, and what do I do to the last vacuum line that I need whether it be, before the EGR VSV, or after, can I just put a small screw in the vacuum line so that it doesn't leak air?

Thanks.

P.S. I already know that I'll have to advance my timing to prevent spark knock, thanks though. Just wondering about the stuff asked, basically any info. about the vacuum from someone who has used the same block off plates on their n/a supra.

just plug up all lines left open and you can remove the VSV if you want. This is the first time I've heard of having to advance the timing.

i agree with everyone here. i have the suprasport egr blockoff plates and have never had a problem with spark knock or had to advance my timing. all you have to do is remove all egr componets and block off all vacume ports. put the block off plates on and your done. no more need for egr vsv or anything. lots of argument may come and go about the need for egr, but i have noticed no diffrence.

thats my .02

Thanks, forthe help guys, I didnt think anyone was going to respond after a couple of days. Anyway, to answer the question about the egr, it does more than just cleaning up the engine bay, it stops the flowof the hot gases, sure the egr recirculates air but its exhaust gas, so blocking it removes some hot air and slightly raises compression ratio, lol, maybe like .2 also, you gain a few hp (supposedly).

That is untrue the egr system is for emissions and is unoperational at wide open throttle. It does not affect compression ratio it just affects air fuel ratio. To keep proper air fuel ratio you displace air with hot exhaust gas(which is inert) will not burn so it drops the flame front temperature resulting in cooler combustion chamber temperatures. Only happens in normal driving conditions not on acceleration. It does clean up the engine bay. Although i did not buy the block off plates i used a aluminum plugs on the back of the head. When i had the head out for machining after blown head gasket i took the rear cover off the head tapped the hole in the head for the egr and inserted a aluminum plug and just to keep it safe i inserted two more after that they arent going to pop out anytime soon. I took the hole vacuume tree off and ran my lines a different way took the vsv off and other vacuume lines not needed. Just informing you on the egr though no hp added and no comp changed.

have to no, but should yeah suppose. It's not real easy being on the back of the head. I recall the requirement of having "ninja hands" in a write up by someone LOL.

JBL used to sell the cooler block off plate, maybe MDC picked that up?

ummm im confused lol what does timing have to do with it? You would retard to prevent knock not advance anyway..

i cant quote everyone here cuz it will take like 18 billion pages to do. you do not have to change your timing to block off the egr. look at all the guys that run ffim's and have no egr. no timing changes there.

just take it this way, leave the fuel vsv, block off all the egr ports and remove that damn egr already. the computer wont throw a fit and the timing will be ok. thats what a o2 sensor is for, if the mixture is off, the o2 and ecu will adjust and then decide to pull the timing on its own.

read earlier, i have the supra sport egr block off kit. i have NEVER adjusted my timing. never needed to. built many a carb based engine and blocked off the egr. never adjusted egr then either. no problems either.
