my hatch had been previously tinted and then had the tint removed, leaving behind a hazy, gummy adhesive and a small strip of tint still stuck to the window. i've been spraying and scrubbing stoner invisible glass cleaner and it's gradually been taking the adhesive off, but takes forever (even using the sun/lamp to heat the tint up).

is it safe to use a product like goo-gone or goof off to take the adhesive off? will this hurt the defroster lines?

what's the best way to get the remaining tint removed?

I removed all my old tint with flat blades. I didn't however use it on the rear window so I don't know what it would do to the defroster lines. I know acetone won't hurt the defroster lines so I can't imagine goof off would hurt.

acetone will fuck up your paint and probably ruin interior plastics......best thing ive found so far is a crap load of windex and plenty of sharp flat razor blades

Denatured alcohol in a spray bottle. Spray it on, let it sit for a minute, and wipe it off. Ammonia should work as well.

Goo Gone...that's what I have used in the past. It works wonders on everything.

Try using a propane torch to heat the tint up. Most of the glue should come off with the tint.

I got this tip from a pro:

Buy a cheap steam iron. You've probably seen them, you fill them with water and they shoot out steam. Just steam a small area at a time and then immediately scrape the area with a sharp new single edge razor.

I've done it and it works better than anything else I've tried.

on my mk2 i used acetone to get it off. had both doors open and the hatch open. poured it on some blue shop towels i had folded and wiped it off. took awhile and over half a roll of shop towels to get all the glue off of all the windows and i let the car sit open like that for about an hour to make sure all fumes were gone. worked good though. windows were sparkling when i was done and it didnt hurt my rear defroster at all. lol.
