Release Bearing Assembly Fit. Loose or Tight

Hello Forum,

I'm installing my clutch and I was mocking up the pressure plate alone with the release bearing assembly assembled. When I picked up the pressure plate, I noticed play in the Bearing Assembly, mind you I'm using all new Toyota rings, washers, and bearings on the assembly.

Is the play supposed to be there. As a unit itself it's tight, but when attached to the pressure plate there is movement. Meaning I can move the pressure plate around with the hub in the center, C-clipped in.

I installed 6 pieces of the hub together, which was shown on the TSRM and EPC from Toyota. So I'm not missing any washers or clips. Maybe paranoia...

Cheers,

Matt-

You shold have hardly any "in and out" movement, but can move it "around" on the diaphragm. It all centers up when fully assembled.

Mine wasn't loose at all, I could move it around, but it took some effort...

That was with every part being BRAND NEW from the dealer. When I took the clutch out to change it it had loosened up some, but it still has zero in-out movement (this is why the wave/cone washers are so critical, and why having it put together properly is critical)

All the parts I used are new from Toyota and the Acton clutch set is new as well. There is no in and out play.

However I did notice different pressure plates, depending on its manufacture, have a layer of paint on the mating surface for the throwout bearing. Perhaps this coat plays a role in the hubs fitment. Perhaps this is why, when you removed the hub again it had the play I currently have. Perhaps, I installed it incorrectly.

When disassembiling the hub I was careful to note the order and direction of the washers and clips.

I have the orignal hub. When I get time I'll take photos of all the pieces and we(forum) can, for future reference, have an illustrated guide to the hub. It would help for some people...Right?

Cheers
