This whole project was ultimately started at Havah's Norcal Supra meet the first day or summer in San Leandro Ca on the bay. I was talking to Mo (Suprastanger507mgte) and he was talking about 2j swaps since we were standing around his teal 1.5jz mk3. He said that you can use an Na 2jz with 7m electroncs. WOW this is interesting! He explained most of the difficult parts of the swap to me. Well needless to say within 7 days I had an NA 2jz in my hands from Attarco in Sac CA. This motor was a long block, nothing else. After having it for a week in my garage I decided that I need to return this 2jz and get another one with more accessories/necessities. A buddy and I are taking the motor back to Attarco, probably a mile away from their warehouse we are going around a turn; i look in the rear view mirror and see the motor doing a somersault in the back of my dads Suburban. The tie I had holding the motor in place had come loose. Ooops. We pull over to find a few bad grease stains. Sorry dad. Its hard to flip a motor over 180 degrees in the back of a Suburban hahah. We get to Attarco and while the guys in the warehouse are unloading the motor my buddy and I are looking around. This place has got to have atleast 1500 motors and 1000 trannys. Unfortunately we didnt see any 2jzgtes, or Rbs. We saw one red top Sr20 though. The guy from the front desk tells us to come look at the different 2jzs he has instock. There are probably 5 other 2jz longblocks exactly like my first motor, but there was one 2jz with all the necessities(intake, exhaust, cut wiring harness, alternator, PS, all that fun stuff. In fear of the guy charging me more for the accessorized 2jz I kind of look around unexcited(in my mind I was jumping up and down :)) "I want that one I guess" and point at the 2jz. He says ok no problem ill get the guys to test it for you and I will take you up front to print you a different receipt. He calls his guys to fetch my motor while we go in the office. We come back out in the warehouse and see a guy loading my motor onto some kind of rack. We run over there, I tried to walk in the area with the machine but I got yelled at... hahah. The rack has a starter on it so it turns the motor over fairly quickly. Couldnt hear any loud knocks or anything :). Thats pretty much the story on acquiring my motor, kind of long I know but im bored.

Well a few weeks ago my car started to knock very lightly but it got worse progressively. Ahh I know. I dont know what happened. It ran low on oil 1.5 years ago but since then i've been super anal about keeping it absolutely full or oil ALL THE TIME. Oh well i guess this means I need to do something with the 2jz i've had in my garage for the past 2 months. :)

So far i've spent ~$2000 on parts. :( I payed for it all by the way, just dont want anyone to think that my car is parentally funded.

How my looked before I ripped it apart.

p1135346_1.jpg

I took the day off on a friday to start pulling the motor. Within 3 hrs I had the motor ready to be lifted out, its still sitting in the car though just cause I cant have 2 motors laying around my garage.

My mom came home and saw that I had the hood off the supra and she said "Take the hood off cause your to tired of having to lift it up when your working on your car?" This was actually kind of sad, I've had nothing but a blast in my car for the past 2.5 years and now im ripping it apart to the point where I cant drive it for awhile.

I've felt likes it x-mas for the past few days, lots of shiny go fast parts!

Ohh yea and Driftmotion FTW!

Over the past few days i've slowly taken the 2jz apart to put a twin turbo headgasket on and check a few things.

My bestfriend works for a machine shop here in Reno so he hooked me up on welding the EGR hole shut in the head and cleaning a bunch of stuff for me.

p1135351_1.jpg

All nice and clean!

p1135351_2.jpg

p1135351_3.jpg

Today I cleaned up the block getting all the old gasket off the head, and oil pan surfaces.

p1135351_4.jpg

Also installed some of the shiney go fast parts I got from Aaron at DM.

These pictures dont give justice to these parts!

Also decided since I was bored that I would take my Masterpower T-70 and SSAC manifold off the 7m to maybe make the 7m removal a little bit easier.

p1135351_11.jpg

p1135351_12.jpg

Also started to make the 2jz look better by painting a few things.

Looks good! Looks like you are spending a lot of time working on that 2jz I'm guessing you are going to get a 1jz flywheel and bell housing for your r154 and run it that way? (assuming it's a 5 speed)

Correct there is no way to get an R154 to work with a 2jz/1jz unless you have the bellhousing and flywheel.

Finally man. I weas waiting for you take this on. I may be helping a frined do this in a Cressida. should be fun.
Have you decided what electronics you will be using? 7m or the 2JZ? That master power would make this a find car :)

Ahah yea man I know. Its exciting for sure! Im just going to go with the 7m electronics since I already have them with my MAFTPRO, didnt get my motor with a good wiring harness or ECU. Yea the MP T-70 was fun on the 7m once I fixed all the boost leaks, didnt know it at the time but I had a huge boost leak during the time of the Norcal meet.

I dont know if you read Scott's(hottscennessey) build thread but he dyno'd nearly 700rwhp with an MP T-70 with a big fuel system of course.

Wanna sell the T4 manifold since you aren't gonna use it ;)

Would you like me to leave the heat wrap on it or not, its kind of torn up and getting a bit loose. Ill shoot you a PM.

Got a problem. Decided that I would really like to go with a lightweight flywheel rather than the stock 1jz flywheel I ordered from Watson. Hopefully he hasnt shipped it out yet. I think he has though, I have a charge on my card for an amount extremely close to what he sells them for.

Anyone need a brand new factory Toyota 1jz flywheel?

cool thread. attarco was where I got my 7m long block from... if you go to them I found out its better. still pisses me off seeing my block laying on its side in the beater pick up they rolled up in to drop it.

Subscribed :) Looks like your setup will be alot like mine, MPT70 etc., you'll love it! I'm putting a TT HG on mine this weekend and putting together my fuel system, can't wait for more boost...

Good luck with the swap and let me know if you have any questions!!

BTW-is that Ken's (paddlenbike) old car?

Yup im going with a TT HG aswell. I have 550s from my 7m along with a 255lh pump, and an AFPR.

Ohh believe me ill have a few questions.

Yes, ahaha it is Kens old car.:) The 7m blew up if you didnt know. Started knocked really bad. Its full of oil. I've always been anal about the 7m besides once 1.5 years ago when it ran low on oil once. :dunno:

Made some good progress today. Started putting the motor back together. :)

Using ARP head studs torqued to 85ft. lbs. and a TT headgasket.

Got my manifold from fedex today so I mocked up my turbo. I have a 1" spacer that Jon@MDC made me right before he called it quits. Looks pretty pissed off I must say. But with the spacer I think ill have some problems with my IC pipe hitting the compressor housing.

When my buddy from the machine shop was over hanging out we pulled a rod cap off. Didnt have a torque wrench at the time to put it back on so I left it loose til now.
