Red taillight failure box?

Never seen a red one, are these Euro failure boxes for the rear fogs, or did the guy just spray paint it?

Its the sensor that illuminates the "light out" indicator. If these go bad internally they can actually cause the lights to come on at all and not illuminate the "light out" indicator. Its pretty common on older 80s Nissans

I know that, but I've only seen yellow and ivory colored boxes, never a red one.

the lamp fail box in both my supras is a blueish colour. both uk cars. ones an 1987 the others a 1988 both na ones manual ones auto

It's for the LED rear lights (meaning 89+ wing)

I've never seen red before either. Ivory/Yellow only. Here's the info on the part number, hope it helps.

I have a 91T and my dash lights comes on everyday but my bulbs are good, would this work as a direct replacement?

I do have to replace the rear driver's lens as someone hit me and took off and left me with a broken lens and a lil dent.

supra469 you probably keep getting water in your fail sensor. replace the light seals when you fix the rear lamp lens

The actually light housings can be coming unbonded as well (or have cracks) and/or the hatch seal can be leaking.

You could just seal the taillight failure box...
