I'm in California 92704 and I'm trying to ship some items out some members that are spread all over the US and I'm getting some ridiculous pricing quotes from Fedex AirFreight, UPS, US Postal Service. I'm pretty sure these ARE NOT the only shippers and that I'm not asking for the right departments or questions.

I'm trying to ship a:

7m to one person (hopefully if it doesn't kill me in shipping costs)

and

r154 to another member in Orlando, FL. 32819 (again, hopefully if it doesn't kill me in shipping costs)

***Anyone have any tips on how to, and with whom to ship these items for the best price and quality?***

***Also, who has the best prices on random smaller and parts? (ie small electronics, intercoolers, turbos, etc.)***

***And does anyone know how much the engine and transmission weigh, approximately?***

Thanks for the help!

Transmission will cost little over $100 to ship with anybody you go with....an engine will cost $4-600 depending on who you deal with....shipping big heavy stuff cost a pretty penny.

Dude I bought my transmission from prefers dhl for shipping thats all I can help you with.

the parts should be crated or palleted before even appraoching any shipping company. This will minimize the cost to just the actual shipping.

Try craiglist. Truckers sometimes check on that depending on thier route :)

Thanks for the feedback so far!!!

So would you guys say that the tranny doesn't weigh over 150lbs? Do you guys know the approximate dimensions of the tranny?

I have shipped a couple of tranny's through UPS, and received the one I'm using now that way too. It really is not that much more to ship it on a pallet. UPS/FedEX/DHL type shipping is not anywhere near as safe as motor freight. If you use a UPS type, use a strong box, drain all fluids, wrap the thing several times with plastic bags to catch any missed fluids that might leak. Use a strong box, and pack the box as tight as you possibly can. It it can move in the box, it will cut it's way out of it. They will flip and roll your box, so pack it well on all sides. If you pack it really good, it's OK to save a few dollars, but don't do it, if you can't find the materials to pack it right. On a pallet, all you have to do is secure it to the pallet. They will take care of it. Some freight companies will pallet it for you, but they will probably charge for that service.

Is "motor freight" a shipping type offered by UPS/Fedex/DHL? Or is it a seperate company's shipping type?

In general, I need to find out who offers motor freight.

Thanks guys!!!

UPS offers motor freight, I don't know about the rest. I think FedEX bought somebody too. They will probably be higher than the others, unless you can ship it through your work, and they have an account with a discount. My company's discount is very nice. An individual would probably not go that route. Try several carriers for a phone quote. They may vary quite a bit. The weight CK posted sounds like when it's full of fluid, or maybe when strapped to a pallet. I don't think I have felt one that heavy, but sometimes I don't even know my own strength:evil2:
