you upgrade anything when rebuilding it? liek the thrust washer and bearing plate? if so lmk how it holds up and i may pay you to upgrade one of my r154's. lol. i just got another 7mgte and if its good im going to throw it in my 84 this weekend with one of the r154;s ive got so i can actually drive the car for a change. still working on the rebuilt 7m and t56 swap though but this way i can drive the car and get other things setup while finishing the other stuff.

haha i replaced all the bearings and synchros. all the measurements came out in spec afterwards, so it's all good up until this stupid little bearing thing =0(

Im almost positive its an interlock pin that goes in the #1 shift fork shaft. The 3 T40 bolts on the main bearing plate you see in your picture. I think each of those 3 T40 bolts has a ball bearing at the end there should be 1 of those interlock pins between each of the 3 ball bearings. So 2 total, looks like you only have one in there and one in your hand.

on the T40 bolts you're talking about, there are 4 total ball bearings. those are perfectly round AND installed. the space i have circled has alittle intention for it, but i don't see a real purpose since all the shafts are pretty securely in place

That pin is what im talking about. Its not in the spot your looking at. It should end up between those T40 bolts when the shaft is installed.

Where do you get these service manual pictures?

Is it the online TSRM manual site and does the tolerances listed in the manual change in other years?

yes sir, what i used to keep those and the balls in place during assembly was one of those small extending pen type magnets. Everything went together really smoothly.

they(both, as in 2) went in place of the upper shafts. the ball that i took out went the place that i circled and the other one went with the reverse lever in the extension housing. i'm glad i figured that out =0)
