Rebuild or swap

Hi, im new to the forums and i've been reading post after post of rebuilds, swaps, issues, set ups, and what not. I have 7mgte in a 87 body that i got for $400. Problem is it has engine knock, valve tap, and it sounds like the crack is wobbling. Coolent coming out the tail pipe and when i rev to 3k, feels like the engine is gonna shake off its mounts. After reading the forums, i know i need total rebuild.

The question, should i even rebuild it? I priced out engine internals to about over 2k. I know the engine has been rebuilt because it has a MHG, the previous owner i bought it from said it had a slight knock the day he got it and got worst halfway to his destination. It sat in his garage for 3 years untill finally i took it off his hands. He said he bought it from a military dude that was leaving the island and bought it as is. (I live in Hawaii)

Im actually leaning towards a swap but i just need a second opinion.

With the problems you've cited, it definitely sounds better to replace the engine.

I want to say $3000 but i still have to address break rotors for they are 80% rusted, new pads, new tires, new innercoller because its all bent up on the bottom, new radiator because of cracks up top, and address acouple of rust spots. Ultimately im keeping my car and i will dump as much money to get it working and keep it working because i love supras. I do have a second car so time isnt that critical and for $400 to get it off of the previous owners hands, i had to jump on that deal.

3k is not enough to do a swap. Any jz swap is easily going to run 5k, for a stockish swap.
It looks like a rebuild is in your future.

save up $2,000 more and go 1jz! best to get a jza70 front clip so you have everthing you need for the swap, well almost everthing.....

i did the rebuild, then did the 7m swap, then finished someones jz swap.....wish i would of did the jz swap 4 yrs ago! good luck.

Thanks for the reply. Im gonna pull the engine and see what i really need to do and what to replace.
