First off, I am not very good at being concise, so please bear with me. I also couldnt find the exact answer to my question.
I am picking up my "new" 90 turbo targa a/t w/BHG next week. Chassis has 156k....not sure about motor and neither is seller. Seller has top end gasket kit, just never got around to doing the work. Seller bought the car in basically same condition I am buying it in. I am very anxious to get the car on the road, but don't want to have more trouble in the future. Now, I know most of you recommend doing a full rebuild, from what I have seen in other posts. But, I really dont have the resources to go all out.
My expectations for my Supra is to have a reliable 280-300whp in a DD. Again, from what I have gathered from the excellent source of SM, this shouldnt be to difficult to attain.
I guess my main question is: Considering my aspirations, what is the minimum I should have to do regarding the BHG/rebuild? Yes, I am asking what is the least I can get away with. It isn't cause I dont want to "do it right the first time", I just dont have the $$ to go all forged this and machined that. I plan on using the OEM HG, might have the head milled.
There are plenty of rebuild threads to get info on, but all of them take it further than I feel I need. So, basically a parts list of the MUST do's would help soooo much. And, I will be doing the work myself. I am not that new to engine work...did the work to my MR2 myself.
Of course, I haven't seen the car yet so all this might be for not, but any help would be great!
