It could be (most likely first)
1) Tail lights seals
2) Rear window trim
3) wiper motor
4) antenna

A buddy of mine seems to be getting tremendous amounts of water coming into his hatch. (like the side pockets where the jack is get filled) And its coming in from the trim on the interior of the door itself. Is it possible that the leak could also be the wing?

mine doesn't leak, but if it rains or I wash the car, and then I open the hatch I get water dripping from behind the hatch panel....???????? what the hell? No water down in the spare tire, it ONLY comes out when I open the hatch. Weird

If your getting water in the pockets where the jack goes it is coming in
around your tail light - the gasket has dried out letting water in remove the
tail light and replace the gasket. The leak is at the top of the tail light where
the water runs down around the tail light. Now on the other side it can be
the tail light or the antena hole if the antena is not tight. A new hatch gasket can be had from Toyota for around $63 if you need that also.
The raised lip around the hatch lid (on the body) prevents much of the leakage around the hatch.

Cheers--

Likely the rear trim or spoiler.

Sorry guys neither of my supras have spoilers so I forgot to mention that piece of plastic stuck to some cars. :nono:

I get that leak too when i open the hatch. Does it come out from behind the panel of the hatch when its open. Cuz thats where mine is. I just haven't found the problem yet.

Had the same problem with mine-it was coming in at the top of the taillight
because the gasket was rotted away. Now this was on the jack side.
The other side it leaked around the antena. You would be amazed at how much water can come thru a tiny hole during heavy rain. The lip around the hatch (the one the gasket covers) prevents water from flowing in past the door so unless your getting leaks around the glass its not comming in past the hatch. In my car the jack compartment would get 3-4 inches of water in it during heavy rain. If its comming in around the interior trim of the hatch its comming in around the wing mounts or the rear wiper mount again a very small hole can let in a LOT of water----

mine does that too! look around the bottom of the window by the lower window trim. mines missing and the water leeks in there. if yours is still there and the water drips from behind the hatch pnael, it could be in there.

It comes in from where the glass meets the hatch on the bottom, under the molding. The molding can be removed, and you can use some glass adhesive. Talk to someone at a body shop to get the same stuff they use. Silicone will not last long, as it will shink and pull away. BEEN there, tried that!!
Also, if you reach way up towards the front, in each of the fender cavities (where the jack goes on the drivers side, for example), on the bottom you will feel a rubber plug. I removed it to allow the water to stay drained off. I did NOT have any water coming IN from those small 1/2" holes when TEST driving thru the water-filled gutters.
Now thus areas stay dry. :icon_razz

Whats the best way to get the tail lights off? I've had a bit of a look, but from what i saw it looked a bit tricky. Im guessing theres an easy method. Thanks

I too have the same problem. After reading this thread and having a closer examination of my rear window seals,i can see a gap/lifted portion in the lower left side of the window, just past the corner where the 2 seals join.I am goin to have a better look and see what i can put in there to seal it up.I also get water in my jack compartment but not in my antenna compartment.:aigo:
