Your profile confuses me. It says that you have a 7M-GTE 1990, but with a W58 tranny... Was it once an NA? Or does it actually have the R154? If it came off the dealship as a 1990 turbo then you have a 3.73 (Could be 3.71, can't remember at the moment) rear end. If it came out as a non turbo, then it could either be the 4.10 open dif (only one tire spins when you do a burnout) or the 4.30 sport package LSD.

hey all, would someone explain better to me the fear ratio etc about the differentials.
I think Starscream5000 said I have 3.73....

mine is a 90 T 5 sp out the dealer.. is it the bigger the number the more torcq or or more power .... so to say..?????

wen I do get this differential out, I dont want to put in one thats less as powerful as mine that died....
the one that I could get,, for replacement is out of a 91 5sp T
does the car haveing a targa , sport roof or nothing have anything to do with it ?

Did you get things apart? Pics of the bolts?
I just had mine apart.

not yet, I just cut a smalll hole in the sub frame. not big enough yet, an I still have to bust the driver side metal cap odd, of the bolt so I can get to it,

what size wrench did you use for the nut in thge sub frame ?

'91 5 spd T is a 3.73 ratio also. the '88 and down turbos are 3.91, like mine. Your rear end doesn't have the acceleration that mine has (nor the non turbo's 4.30 for that matter), but you have a slightly higher max speed.

square huh ?

you know the ones I mean, closer to the drive shaft...
yea, the nut or whatever it is is in the cross frame thats welded in it...
since it broke free , it spins when i turn the bolt. prolly make things alittle easier if I knew the nut size that broke from the weld...in the cross frame...

First pic, the beam that's on top. The two holes closest to the indention for the differential (might be the next two out, it's been a while).

not necessarily as the diff will put more load and spool faster

stock CT is a torquey turbo and spools quick, so the diff will have an advantage in using the torque. 1J has more top end pull hence the different gear ratio used in them...

you match the diff to the RPMs of the engine and it's powerband, hence why they used something like 2.92's in 3rd gen F-body cars with TPI as it had awesome low end torque and crappy high RPM efficency...
