Rear-End Codes in the VIN

Someone gave me a link to a post that gave me vehicle vin section that represented what rear-end was in my MKIII. Just searched high and low and can't find it whatsoever. Could someone toss me a bone? Please and thank you.

Answer is it's not in your VIN, whoever told you it was in there was incorrect.

It is on the data tag/sticker (firewall for 86-88, door sill for 89-92). It will read A/TR: XXXX/YYY. X = Axle code, Y = Transmission Type.

Ahh thank u wise sir.
I have an 8" ring with 3.90 gears and a 4 pinion LSD.

I'm still a little confsed tho on the replacing fitment, will an NA 4.30 match up to mine? Or better yet 4.11's?

Yes it will fit, any MK3 rear end will fit in any MK3 (assuming it is a North American MK3).

Your speedometer will read incorrectly if you do change it though.

Thank you for offering up the coreect info. Now I'm gonna have to check my codes again as I was thinking from another post that I had the 4.30 rear end. God I hope I still do, But if not no biggie, i'll buy one.

So mine shows G305 so that is showing 8", 3.727 ratio, 4 piston LSD.
G=8" ('86.5-'92 A7 chassis)
30=3.727
5=4 Pinions LSD

LOL this is the first time I have ever checked it.
