Really weird problem!!

Alright guys i need a little help here!

We got a 89 turbo auto here that im workin on. i just installed a 57 trim turbo, ss mani, 3" exhaust all the way,fpr, lex afm, 255 walbro.

anyways onto the problem.

car starts up, runs like a dream, you can revv it and it sounds very strong.

now when i put the car in drive and start driving it, as im driving it and give it more gas, rpms drop and car shuts off!!! so basically when the car is in park, i can revv it and all that and everything looks normal, but when i start driving it and give it gas, the car shuts off! i though it was maybe fuel pressure but i have it set at 32 psi idle and 55 psi WOT.

any help would be greatly appreciated.:1zhelp:

You rev it in park? Can you do that? (serious question here, I've never done it and don't know if it's possible)

If you have the Lexus AFM and no way to match the fuel curve to the increased airflow that could cause problems. Do you have any codes? I imagine if the engine's shutting down you're probably getting too little fuel, or maybe even too much if your pressure is too high.

Yes....you've never had a car in park and revved the engine? I don't mean to call you an idiot or anything, but you're just pressing the gas pedal while the tranny is set to "P". Maybe you're confused, thinking by "rev" he means reverse?

The ECU will be doing backflips trying to learn to compensate for the Lex without 550s. Last time I reset my ecu mine would stall out if I was cruising and let off the gas, wouldn't really go above 2k, etc.

nahh its not 550cc, my old setup i was running a t70 turbo at 24 psi and a 255 walbro never a problem!

anyways i pulled some codes out .

14 = ignition

51 = knock sensor


i dont understand why this shit happend when the car was runnin perfect a month ago!!

No, I've seriously never done it. I know what he meant by rev, I just thought that when the car was in park the tranny locked or something. I don't drive autos much and haven't ever taken one apart =\

Oh, well the tranny doesn't move when it's in park but when you rev, you rev the engine right...so, there's no moving in the tranny. At idle the engine is moving, just at very low revs, it's the same kind of thing, at higher revs.
