Real power output of N/A 7M?

My search for MkIII has lead me to the possibility of grabbing 90 N/A, So I've realy tried to put the effort into researching 7M GE modds, at least I have a "menu" so to speak of mods that I will do. Have to say that the power numbers from the bored and stroked 7m amazed me, but thats beyond my technical knowledge right now. I did search, but has anyone posted dyno numbers from a 7m with just the bolt on applications, intake, exhaust ect. How much more power does this give the 7M N/A.

if you post anything along the lines of "high horsepower NA" people are going to tell you its monitarally not worth it. if you want to do it, be prepaired to spend alot and get a little. decent gains can be seen from boring, stroking, higher compression, use NO2, some cams, a nice exhaust, highflow cat or testpipe, headers, and head work.

most people will tell you to go turbo.

yep. lotta work is needed to make an NA go fast, but its not really worth it for 85-90% of the NA owners. however, for that last 10-15% that want to do something wild (like drain their bank account, 3 times over) this is the way to go.

Well Duh! what the heck there it is, thanks CRE, missed that thread. (Maby saw that thread earlier, for some reason was thinking they were tubo numbers, claiming sudden blurry vision sindrome). What do you think guys, grab that 90 non turbo, transplant that engine in my MkII, then someday find a 1 or 2JZ for the 90 shell, .....and while I'm at it win the lotto..might take a while for me to get the funds for the more powerful engine but at least I'd have the shell ready. As always thanks for the answer.

a couple of 7MGE mk2s have dipped in to the 14s relatively easily

but I must stress, as I did over at cs.com, don't go around purchasing used engines and expecting them to throw down 170whp... I've seen too many NA 7Ms recently putting down a miserable 140whp! yikes!

staying NA mk3 only makes sense if you
a. plan on gutting the car to drop some serious fat
b. plan on rebuilding the engine and throwing it in a mk2
c. are broke and have no other choice

lol

Leaning to a rebuilt and slightly tuned 7M GE for the MkII, Unless I find a heck of a deal on a 7M GTE with all the fixings. From what I've seen there's a couple of suppliers who offer intercooler kits that go with the turbos. Again it's the money thing. If I do go the N/A route I think a realistic goal is 175hp at the wheels with bolt on mods. For a MkII 200rwhp would still be very entertaning.

Some guy with an Intake and Stock MK3 Turbo exhaust (which isn't so free flowing) ran a 14.9. Looks like you're a little off.

Yep. Money vs Money, turbo is obviously the best bang for your buck. But some of us stubborn mk2 owners (such as myself) want to squeeze out as much HP from an NA that's humanly possible, regardless of $$

170-200whp is definitely enough to get a mk2 moving fairly decent

he probably didnt run that on a 100k+ mile engine tho, it was probably a fresh rebuild.

Well, the point is, people should know that N/As don't run 16-17s all day long if they are in ok condition.

Wow amazing how fast things can move. Unless this falls through, should be picking up a 89 Turbo automatic this Saturday. If the Supra Godz shine on me I'll have my 7M GTE for the MkII and a MkIII shell for some other Turbo insanity.

If you are talking about supraracer01, Ryan had more done to that car than intake/exhaust. Off the top of my head I know he head a header and some other little mods done to the car. It was wrecked before I had a chance to see it in person.

That pass was also a one-time thing if IIRC. I think the car ran consistent mid-low 15's, which is still very good for an N/A MK3 IMO.

His website:

edit: quote from him on SF:
i dont publicly announce my time on here as i dont want to get into it with the turbo guys, my best time was a 14.98 but i ran consistantly 15.1's. the 14.98 was on a 75* day and i nailed a 1.9 60'. it really wasnt modded too seriously it was mainly good tires and me learning how to launch it at the track. the mods were: CAI, ported TB, ported and polished head, block decked, paeco headers, 2.5" test pipe, and a factory stock turbo exhaust, koni/eibach suspention and lightweight 17x8" konig monsoons with 245/40/17's fuzions, same as the potenza re750's but with a slightly harder compound. its made by bridgestone. i loved the car and even tho my 90T is much faster, that car was infinately more fun to drive.

it would take about 297 all motor WHP to put a 3200lb car at a 13.0 1/4 mile. looks like the NA record is goig to be smashed by defiant7m. :)
