I guess I'm damaged for life...i get widthdrawl symptoms when I don't drive my car at least once a day, in fact sometimes I find myself driving it all the way across town to pick up a candy bar I could have got down the road...

Well, sort of confused on this whole argument aside from the oil analysis thing, but if anyone is referring to ME to get rid of the MK3 and get a more "reliable" car, then you don't know me too well(obviously). I know PLENTY of people that get frusterated with their cars, it's a common thing, but it's also a matter of EXPERIENCE and I, myself, have only acknowledged 6 months of a Supra. Yes, I get frusterated with what to do because I'm not sure of exactly what is going on. I don't think getting rid of it will solve it. I didn't get this car to "be cool" or say "I drive a Supra", I got it because I LOVE them and I want to learn and it's my passion. Once again, PLEASE realize that I'm just lacking some experience, therefore causing frustration. If you say that people with a tight budget to spend money on their car should get rid of the MK3 and get another car, then I will stand up for 3/4 of the people on this website. Is there a problem with this? If so, I guess I'll just leave this website. Thanks for the support...

To see if it is rod knock, pull the spark plug wires off, one at a time. It will run a little rough, but if it is rod knock it will go away when you pull the wire off the cylinder that has rod knock.

Well I hate to sound like I did(in the last post) but I don't really care to hear any criticism right now. Thanks for the info you have provided for me. I don't have rod knock...I've got some other things that I'm having to take care of, but good to know that RK isn't the case.

Oil analysis can be used in several ways. It can be used to monitor wear metal trends to find which oil an engine "likes" or it can be used to monitor the oil itself (must be why it's called oil analysis eh?) to determine OCI. I use it for both but after finding which oil is is best for my engine I now primarily use it to determine OCI. That adds up not only to big savings over the life of the car but provides me with an true idea of what's happening in the engine. I prefer driving my car to constantly working on it.

Oil analysis should be done as a proactive maintenance tool, not reserved for an engine change or a suspected problem. In fact a single analysis is useless for anything but checking on the oil. It tells little about the engine. Oil analysis has been done for decades in the trucking, heavy equipment, and industrial sectors. Not to mention aviation which started it all. I analyze the oil in my aircraft's engine *every* time it gets changed.

Jspec: *edit*....on second thought I'll skip the long song and dance. All I'll say is when you pay to learn, you learn. The car is nothing more than an asset you enjoy. It's there for you to own, not the other way around. When any asset becomes a liability, either in treasure or emotion, it's time to dump it and quick. It's just a car and you can always get another down the road.

No offense, but how would someone, like myself, who has stated MANY times that I don't know shit discourage someone from doing something? And for those of us who live 30+ mins from somewhere that may, or may not, have these kinds of services I don't really see this as a luxury that I would want to hassle with. Sure I'm not gonna know how much everything in the inside of my engine is wearing, but hell. I haven't kept a car long enough to need to worry about it personally.

Maybe I'll just put "I don't know shit, don't take anything I say to heart and especially don't use it as advice" in my sig. I think it would keep a lot of posts like the prev one from occuring in the future.

My car is going on almost 2 years with out running. I have about $15,000-$20,000 more to go before its finished the way I want it, and I've already invested years + over $15,000 on it easy and it doesn't even run. It all comes down to what you really want and how motivated you are. I don't think about selling because I know when its finally done it will be something I can be proud of, not only the final product but the hard work and dedication I put into it.

Well Matt, the advice that you gave me was great. Yes, maybe not 10000% accurate but it's ballpark range and maybe not all aspects...but HE DOES know his shit when it comes to Supras(MKII and III). Lagged, I think you took that a little too far. He specifically said that he wasn't trying to DOG on it because he had never really used it before and he would like to learn more about it. What the hell is wrong with that?

If you cannot afford maintenence of a supra ( in general, mk3 and mk4 parts are about the same price period) you should really rethink owning the car...or ANY sports car of that matter.

They guzzle gas
They can get you tickets
And parts are NOT cheap.

none of these are as expensive to maintain as a supra they are all sports cars.

I work with a guy that has been all domestic his whole life...valvetrain parts are the same price ( quality wise ) as imports...wheels....exhaust....all expensive.

Its a nitch market, it will always be expensive when companies KNOW your going to NEED something or your going to BUY something.

Well, thanks for what you consider to be "advice" but I've owned Eclipses, 3000GTs, 240sx's, a little bit of everything. ONCE AGAIN, I will say clearly that I dont plan to get rid of the car. siman, try to put your self in this sort of situation.

You are fairly new to Supras. You are building your Supra and still learning, something happens that is sort of serious and you are not experienced enough to fix it right off the bat. Tell me that there would be NO frustration in this? Also, at the moment, it is your daily driver. If not, I ENVY YOU AS WELL. Please understand that not EVERYBODY is as skilled as "you" or anybody else, therefore at times, things can become frusterating. I am new to SUPRAS, not the entire "tuner" scene so I don't need to hear all this stuff about bad gas, expensive parts, hard to find, etc. I've been there. Supra's are fairly new to me and if you can't seem to get your head out of your ass and just HELP someone instead of criticizing them, then just don't reply. I hate to sound like this but the vibe I'm getting from some of you guys isn't making matters any better. And for the record, everything is being fixed.

The supra aint my daily driver, never has been. I just claim it to be because I love driving it so much...the only days I remember driving are when I am driving my supra.....hehe

As for "learning"...hell Nero Deliwala is still "learning". We are all still learning.

As for nuts and bolts and taking apart/putting together....thats nothing new to learn. Its all like lego's.
