uh huh. I don't see the point of this?

If you're DDing a supra, or just driving it on weekends on the streets, removing the sound deadening material to save a measly 54lbs is senseless. 3400lbs - 54lbs is still freakin' heavy... so it might weigh 3300-3350 now, The MkIII is just a heavy car; doing things like ripping out the A/C and sound deadening material takes away from the whole experience: comfort and performance. It's a GT car, not a miata. It isn't light, and never will be light while maintaining a good level of comfort, safety, and luxury at the same time.

If you're roadracing, every tiny bit counts... I suppose it depends on what you want out of the car.

To me, the idea of the MkIII is to do a 12-13sec pass with the stereo on in your fully adjustable electric seat, then head over to the road course and have fun. Then pop out the targa and drive home with the wind in your hair, making every girl in her boyfriend's lowered civic think "I wish I were fucking him". Then park it infront of your house and be proud of it. It is what it is, and trying to make it something it's not will ruin what it was intended to be.

That's my 2 cents. If you're road racing, all this is invalid anyway :p Rip it all out and go nuts ;)

For one, I won't be ripping the sound deadening out of my car, because it's not a race car for me, and I feel that there are a lot of other places that I'd remove weight from before I went there.

To me 1/2 of weight reduction is where you remove the weight from. The higher the location, the better it is to remove it. Sound deadening is in the floor. It doesn't get much lower than that. I'd also prefer to remove weight at the front of the car, rather than the rear, to help balance things out.

All that said, if you're looking to lighten the car, every bit helps, and 54 lbs is signifigant. Individually, any given item may be minimal, but it's only by adding up those little things that you actually get somewhere.

Since my goal is for a comfortable car that also happens to be fun to drive, this doesn't mesh with my goals, but if I were to build another A70 for racing, then I'd definitely do this.

Also on my note i left out this also includes the sound deadening under the center console around the tunnel.

There is no sense in argueing how you feel about it:dunno:
Its just an opinion like everyone haves their own.
I am just stating for the record.

I ripped out my a/c... i'll never use it, and just less crap in the way of the radiator...

I can see removing somethings, but doing "weight reduction" mods on the drivetrain, rotating assembly, and wheels i think are far better reductions as they are moving/rotating objects. so 2lbs removed there equals a LOT more than if you just take our your sound deadening crap...

well all this talk and no one has weighed the wiring for everything??

Come now! Someone must have yanked the old OEM wiring to all the components (not the engine harness!) and weighed it. :)

Best weight reduction: remove the engine and all 4 tires.

quit eating McD's with super sized fries and a diet stroke. That will do wonders for the car AND for your health too!

This man speaks truth!

Plus, there are way better ways at reducing a few pounds here and there in the car before you go about taking all the sound deadening material. Spare tire, back seats, all the burger wrappers floating around the back... your gas tank.
