Just wondering how rare the 042 paint code is. Its listed as White Pearl Mica Metallic Tricoat.

Reason I ask is the car I just bought has that code, and its a very cloudy white, never seen it before on a MK3.

(By the way, I ran 3 or 4 different searches and couldn't find any info on this paint code here on the forums...

I seen quite a few pearl white cars. Not sure on what year your talking about tho.

I've seen more red cars than anything else.

Doesn't make it worth anymore than any other color tho

It's a bit rare because it can't be easily resprayed (it's essentially a candy paint), so finding a clean one is kinda hard.

I have one with that paint code although it has been resprayed. It is a 3 part paint with base, pearl, clear. I have read that the cars with this paint code were manufactured only in Japan (I looked for a reference but couldn't find one, so consider the Japan thing speculation). Some say that these were built better but I don't know. Mine feels solid but that is subjective.

I think a buddy of mine might have this on his car actually... I'll have to check his firewall plate to find out for sure.

Yeah the car is really dirty at the moment and all I had was my phone camera. I'll see if I can get a close up of the finish this weekend.
