This is gonna be short.

IM OVER THE BULLSH!T ANTI-TOBACCO ADDS ON TV.

They are some of the most ignorant, one sided commercials on tv.

Yes tobacco can harm your health. If your too dumb to figure that out after you wheeze up flem each morning, then by all F!@#$#@$ing means go smoke another.

Whats funny is that auto accidents kill the same if not more people per day, and you don't see,
Surgeon General's warning :This car is dangerous and may be hazardous to your health.

Serious people, grow the #$#ck up and get a brain - think for Christ's sake.

Furthermore, anti smoking laws in bars. If you don't like the smoking and drinking,

DON'T GO THE LOCAL WATERING HOLE

Don't give me the crap of "Oh well I work there...". Go work some where else.

It should be up to the restraunt owners and bar/tavern owners to make up their own minds. If you don't like the smoke, and you don't go to the restraunt, sooner or later the sales dwindle, and the owners will get the hint.

That is all.:icon_conf

Exactly! Same thing about the seatbelt and helmet laws. My choice if I want to go splatter my brains out.

Couldn't have said it better myself Ian. Just sad that so many people want more and more freedoms, but want more and more laws taking every one elses' (freedoms) away at the same time.

IJ, what you said goes way beyond smoking, unfortunately. The world is hypersensitive to EVERYTHING these days. Just look at "workplace safety". Companies go on and on about really caring for people, but it's simply a process of hedging lawsuits. Nobody wants to take responsibility for their own safety so they sue for the stupidest things, and guess what? We've lost the opportunity to exercise common sense and so we're buried under ridiculous and excessive safety laws and training sessions.

My God, I wish we could just get back to the concept of common sense and personal responsibility! This whole thing has become the political correctness of the corporate world, and I hate it.

While this is a good point, and I do agree that the ads do go overboard in some areas, I think it would be interesting to get some actual percentage statistics on this. The same amount of people may die in auto accidents each day, but I'm willing to bet that there are a lot more people driving than smoking, at least here in the states. So they might not actually be on the same level. Again, I don't know any of the statistics on this, but it was just something I thought might be interesting to actually look into.

As far as the smoking ban, I think it’s definitely an issue that needs to be addressed somehow, but I don’t think a complete ban is the right solution because, as you said, allowing smoking or banning smoking could both harm a company. I don’t think there should be any sort of law implementing this, but I think it would be considerate (and possibly even in the best financial interest) of a restaurant or other company to come up with a way to create 2 environments - one for those that smoke or don’t mind the smoke, and one for those that dislike smoke. But the trick would be to do this without making it seem like there are 2 environments, which I’m not so sure can be done.

Justin- I agree that smoking is your choice, and if you find it enjoyable then by all means go ahead and do it. But second hand smoke is also very harmful and, in my opinion, there comes a point where personal enjoyment comes secondary to other people’s health. But should this be implemented by law? I wouldn’t think so, but at the same time, I know others aren’t going to stop smoking just because they want to decrease my chances of lung cancer. So there is some good in the anti-smoking bans, although I don’t currently think there’s a cure all solution floating around, nor do I have one. But like IJ said, the current bans and commercials do seem to mainly be because of lawsuits, which, unfortunately, are much too common lately.

ha, I actually thought that one was funny just because the frist time I sat there in shock that I was actually seeing it. And then the second time, once it had soaked in a I knew the "point" I still thought it was funny just because it's so stupid and overdone.

Some of the first ones did a decent job "educating" people. Or at least they had interesting facts, but the bed... ha, really makes me never want to smoke.

Meggs, while I think there's something to the idea of a restaurant/bar making an area for everybody, I believe there's one serious problem with it. Remember that anybody who has started a business like that has invested far more time and money than most of us who work for existing businesses. They have often put everything they have on the line to make a go of small business. If anybody is willing to risk everything to make a go of offering a service and providing jobs, then I really wonder if any governing body has any business at all saying they 'have' to be smoke free or provide completely smoke free areas.

If the public really wants a smoke free environment, then an enterprising entrprenuer will realize the need and jump on it. It will succeed and others will follow. On the other hand, if the public doesn't really value something like that, we won't see them last and multiply. It's this sort of situation when free enterprise really works, and we should let it do just that. In my humble opinion, of course. ;)

preach , but the anti-drug commercials are worse in my oppinion.Smoking ban sucks, damn cigarrette tax, makin us pay for something they'll never do.

Agree with you there.

"Yeah, I bet my friends that I could outrun Benji the killer junkyard dog cause we smoked this big giant fatty..."

I don't think so. The worst thing any pot head I ever knew did was:

-"I love you man!" Get off me.
-"I got the f!@#@ing munchies man." Don't eat all my food please or go get Taco Bell/Dell Taco
-"zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz" Sleep it off man, sleep it off.

You never ever hear of

"Billy Jo Skipjack killed a family of four today when he lit up a fatty joint and stoned his mind into being sooooo blitzed that he passed out and drove the car into on comming traffic."

Nope, its always some drunk ass that pulls that off.

If you're a responsible adult about it, I really don't see how the green bud is any worse than liquor.

That's what I've been saying for a long time. Make some money off of it and let law enforcement spend more time on people that are actually a threat. Not to mention, eliminate some of the "under-ground" ish that comes with selling illegal substances.

Louky- I agree completely. And I wasn't trying to say that it should be a law, I was simply saying it would be nice (thought not entirely practical for a lot of companies) and might even increase their revenues rather than completely making a place smoke free or running the risk of people boycotting a certain place because it allows smoking (like MDC mentioned).

Most of the serious pot heads I know have so little intrest in anything but smoking new and exciting varieties of Canabis, they are pretty harmless... And they would rather spend the money on more weed than buy cars, so unless the nursery they run needs a new truck, they don't drive much... LOL

Sad part is these same friends of mine from High School are still doing nothing with their lives except smoking pot. I suppose not breeding is a good thing for the overall human race, but seriously don't people notice that pot is bad no matter what pretty color you paint it? (Sort of like saying Cocaine is just for fun, or Meth is people just experimenting with their lives...)

I feel sorry for everyone hooked on cigs. The companies that sell you the cigs are making billions, and they add more nicotene to keep you hooked for life. Just like adding caffine to soda pop has hooked millions into drinking gallons of the stuff every week for many people, or coffee etc..

I'm personally hooked on food, so I'm seriously screwed... Perhaps I should take up smoking? LOL Might cut down on my food habit....
