This is something that has bugged me for a long time, how is it that a set of forged pistons for a 4 cylinder cost the same as a 6 or an eight same thing for forged rods? I mean ok say a set of pistons for a v8 cost 800$ shouldn't a set of pistons for a 6 be 600$ and for a 4 400$ how do companys get away with charging the same price i know it cost them more to make 8 pistons then 4 pistons. It just has never made any sence to me:aigo:

i'm bad, i'm nationwide
by v8 parts, i'm gonna assume you are talkin about mostly american 8's
these motors have been around and modified long before the import thing became popular. the development processes and money spent was done long ago.and those costs were spread among a much larger market.
i'm shure it dosent cost any more to develop one piston/rod per unit over another, but costs are costs, v8 is naturally gonna sell more units than 6 or a 4, the development costs are the same, and have to be paid

and also, if you have a larger market, the run costs are going to be less per unit than the smaller one. i'd bet there are still a lot more sb chevys being built up than 4 cyl honda's or 6 cyl toyotas
