Is it expensive to maintain?
As Theresa said, maintaining it isn't bad, but setting it up was hella expensive:
The tank, stand & lights were close to $1000
The live rock was about $500
There's about $200 worth of sand in there
The Protien Skimmer was about $200 (this is a must have)
The other filter was about $100
The powerheads were $100 (there are two)
Heater is about $40
The salt for the water was about $40
The testing kits were probably close to $100
The refractometer (measures salt) was about $100
All it all we've probably got close to $3000 into the tank before putting a single living thing in it.
Saltwater fish aren't cheap either. That Flame Angel we picked up yesterday was $60, and he's a CHEAP fish.
You can easily spend a few hundred per fish. Yesterdays fish store trip was probably one of the least expensive trips we've ever made, and I'm pretty sure we spent close to $200. The day I bought the live rock was the funniest. I sat in the car, turned to Theresa and said "You do realize I just spent over $500 on boxes of wet rocks, don't you?". It takes a certain level of insanity to do this stuff.

'ey! I helped!
Thanks! And yea, she's got as much work into this thing as I do.
We're moving on to Coral next, so things are going to start getting a little more expensive. We need to upgrade the lighting in order to do Coral, which can cost anywhere from $500 to $3000 depending on how 'nutty' you want to go.
