Ran across a Supra, what do you think of the price?

Hi everyone. I'm a Supra noob, and am looking for some opinions. I stumbled upon an 88 Supra Turbo with 80k original miles. The clear coat is peeling on the hood and roof, but the car is rust free. I'm not sure how the interior is yet. It looks to be a hard top and the worst part is it's an auto. The asking price is $2500 obo. The fact that it's an auto is making me shy away because I really hate auto, but it seems like a good price anyway. What do you guys think? Also, is a manual swap fairly simple or is it a royal pain? Thanks! :icon_smil

By the way, here are a few pictures of it:

That is a good price for a low miles car like that. BTW Auto will shift faster than 5 speed, with less spool loss..5 Speeds are fun though.

Seems very ( almost to ) cheap for an 80k turbo .... Does it have a water sloshing sound behind the dash ?

It looks like a good buy. I would suggest holding out for something you want though. If you want a 5 speed, wait for one. On the other hand though, it is a low mileage supra in what looks to be good condition for a fair price. It's a toss up.:dunno:

LOL I have an auto, and I'd rather have a 5 speed, why? well because I like shifting on my own, the car sounds much better in manual form, and you are faster on the higyway, track, and twistys. Drag racing is fun but I can run faster times in my friends 5 speed than in my auto and we have the same mods almost.

I'd say go for it, if the motors bad buy a 1jz clip so then youll have a 1jz and a 5 speed and become the GOD OF THE 1JZ 5 SPEED in your town anyways.

My reason for hating the fact that it's auto is because auto is so boring to drive, at least in my opinion. If I can get it for $2k I don't think I can say no to that though.

I wasn't too keen on an auto, but I found a nice car at a great price like you did and decided to go for it, and was pleasantly surprised by the auto box. It's not half as boring as I thought it was going to be.

While I'd still like to do a 5spd conversion, I'll probably wait until I do a rebuild - I'm in no rush to get the auto box swapped out, for daily driving and cruising in the city, it's pretty awesome.

I have an auto, and i love it!

But if you want a 5sp, wait and get a 5sp... It's not worth it to get this auto now for cheap, just to spend a small fortune for the swap in the near future...

Well I went and looked at the car. The body is alright, fairly straight, has some hail damage on the roof, the side molding was actually stolen at one time and now it's rusted around every mounting hole, but it looks like it's just surface. There's no rust anywhere else though. The interior is in fantastic shape. However, I can't get over the fact that it's an auto, and I would really like to find one with a Targa top. I think I'm going to take LilMissMKIII's advice and hold out, even though this is a decent deal. If anybody else may be interested in the car, let me know and I'll get you the contact info.

stock vs stock. auto is faster then the 5 speed. plus, all REAL drag cars are auto :D

buy it. see if u cant knock em down to $2000. then its a steal!

Yeah but a 10 sec quarter that you shifted through is more fun then a 9 second that you just held the wheel.
