I am looking to buy an 89 Turbo car not running because the top part of the radiator where the upper hose connects to the radiator has basically blown a hole in the radiator but it was in one piece and about 6 inches long why would this happen?

if you have not purchased yet and have access to the car check the basic signs of bhg. oil, coolant(if any left) along with what it looks like in color, check under the oil cap for moisture or "milky" oil, check coolant overflow.

Maybe ask the po if he has had any running problems prior to radiator explosion? pull plugs also if you can.

Don't buy it unless you have the skills finances and initiative to rebuild or replace the engine. Consider that the head could very possibly be junk. Also pending pics we could tell you how much you should pay for it. Generally dont pay over $1000 for a non running supra.

He asked what I would give him and I said probably just 700-800 bucks he said he would think about it and give me a call back could the motor possibly be locked up?

If enough coolant got into a cylinder, it could hydro lock, which is hard on the rod/bearing.
