i have a 91 turbo supra and my rack and pinion is busted. i barely have any power steering. i did a 1jz swap and i know that i have a working ps pump. now my queston is if anyone has bought a rack and pinion and if they can tell me a good cheap place.ive called a couple of place and one thing im confused about is what the mysterious "evo" component is, so if anyone can tell me, it would be very helpful. thanks

it's not easy to change... toyota in their infinate wisdom puts it in from the top, so pulling or lifting the engine would be the easiest way...

Brewster: man that's pretty damn cheap, wish I knew about this when the engine was out!!!

yeah putting the new one in is a bit tougher than taking the old one out, but it's still not hard to do. remember to reconnect the steering shaft before you bolt the rack down.

I hope this isn't too far off track on this thread but, how much of a difference does the newer progressive p/steering rack make? Is it better? worse? indifferent? I have a an 87 so I have the old steering and was wondering if it's worth it to upgrade.

Theres alot more to it then just bolting in the rack. There is a steering wheel sensor, a solenoid that is controlled by?? And I believe its tied into the tems system. But its going to be difficult to switch.

Damn it! I was afraid the answer was going to be something like that!

Is it a huge improvement? (never driven a MKIII but my own).

I wonder what speed sensor the PPS uses... I don't think mine's working, and I don't think it has since I've owned this car.

that one works good? and it comes with...?? does it come with the boots and bushings?

It came with the boots but not the bushings. You can buy new bushings from Toyota or some poly bushings from SupraSport etc.
