I really find it funny that you don't see a white person bitchin' about running out of chicken....would that make me racist? :sarcasm:

Lol, no, but it would make you a bit clueless(lolololololololoolol I's so clever) to news reporting "methods". I can guarantee there were loads of other races there, but surely they were just camera shy, surely! :sarcasm:

So your base assumption is that there is no way possible that this particular restaurant is in an area that is predominantly, or nearly exclusively black, and instead this news team manipulated the interviews to portray some sort of stereotype?

And on topf of that this is somehow "racism"?

If it were true, it would certainly be considered bigotry, but racism? There's a big difference.

Regardless, I can think of plenty of areas in several major cities where I'd be hard pressed to find a white person to interview, and on the contrary other areas where I'd be hard pressed to find a black person.

I'm just wondering what about this particular story makes you so sure that someone is manipulating the news to reinforce a stereotype for no discernible advantage or profit. I'm not saying you're wrong, you might be correct. But what makes you so sure in this case?

There are two things that really get under my skin. Misuse of language and Politically correct bullshit. Bigotry does not equal racism. They are radically different things.

And at the root of every stereotype, there is a grain of truth...

If I assume you can't dance because you are white, then I'd be a bigot. If I assumed you liked fried chicken because you were black, then I'd be a bigot.

If I believed that one race was better than another, and therefore entitled to dominate them, then I'd be a racist.

In my experience, a good number of white people can't dance worth a fuck. And a good number of black people do love fried chicken. Do either of those observations make me a bigot? A racist? I think not.

That's what I thought we were discussing here.

the news crew interviewed who was there, and blacks were the only ones..

That's what I was assuming, I didn't take that as Jervis' perspective.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm quite confident that I never said anything about racism, just about bias. Maybe there's some alt text that I'm not aware of. :dunno:

What I've said so far would be the same as if a news story on gun rights only interviewed the most right wing, out of touch "gun crazies" they could find.

Now what I find so interesting is how utterly pissed off these people are getting. So they ran out of chicken. Shit happens. Should've fulfilled your fried chicken craze a little earlier. This video really just exemplifies how pathetic people can be, black, white, brown, purple...you get the point.

got this in my emails today

This e-mail does contain wording that is meant to express an
open opinion to a major problem in the USA ... It
is estimated that only 11% of those receiving this e-mail
will read it all the way to the end. In addition, it
is estimated that only 1% of non-white color will read
this past this point and 99% will blow it away because of
the title.

It is a shame this sentiment exists when we tell the world
that the USA is the best place to Live, Worship, Work, and
Play....

"WHITE
" Pride"

This is great. I have been wondering about why Whites are
racists, and no other race is.....

Proud to be White

Michael Richards makes his point..............

Michael Richards better known as Kramer from TVs Seinfeld does make a good point.

This was his defense speech in court after making racial comments in his comedy act. He makes some very interesting points....

Someone finally said it. How many are actually paying attention to this? There are African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans, Arab Americans, etc.

And then there are just Americans. You pass me on the street
and sneer in my direction. You call me 'White boy,' 'Cracker,' 'Honkey,' 'Whitey,' 'Caveman'... and that's OK.

But when I call you, Nigger, Kike, Towel head, Sand-nigger, Camel Jockey, Beaner, Gook, or Chink ... You call me a racist.

You say that whites commit a lot of violence against you... so why are the ghettos the most dangerous places to live?

You have the United Negro College Fund. You have Martin Luther King Day.

You have Black History Month. You have Cesar Chavez Day.

You have Yom Hashoah. You have Ma'uled Al-Nabi.

You have the NAACP. You have BET... If we had WET (White
Entertainment Television), we'd be racists. If we had a
White Pride Day, you would call us racists.

0r If we had White History Month, we'd be racists.

If we had any organization for only whites to 'advance' OUR
lives, we'd be racists.

We have a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a Black Chamber of Commerce, and then we just have the plain Chamber of Commerce. Wonder who pays for that??

A white woman could not be in the Miss Black American pageant, but any color can be in the Miss America pageant.

If we had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships... You know we'd be racists..

There are over 60 openly proclaimed Black Colleges in the US .. Yet if there were 'White colleges', that would be a racist college.

In the Million Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights. If we marched for our race and rights, you would call us racists.

You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange, and you're not afraid to announce it. But when we announce our white pride, you call us racists.

You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us. But, when a white police officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug dealer running from the law and posing a threat to society, you call him a racist. I am proud... But you call me a racist.

Why is it that only whites can be racists??

There is nothing improper about this e-mail. Let's see which
of you are proud enough to send it on. I sadly don't think many will. That's why we have LOST most of OUR
RIGHTS in this country. We won't stand up for ourselves!

Age, skill, wisdom, and a little treachery will always overcome youth and arrogance!

Ok, I'll give you that, however it is a bigotry-fueled bias in order to further a quasi-racist view. It's a tactic used to perpetuate an idea about a specific race, by culling interviewees determined by their race. Being that it also discriminates against other races by removing their views from the story, it is intrinsically racist.

I'm also wondering why you would rather call it bigotry rather than racism, because by definition, a bigot is actually the worse of the two:

Merriam-Webster:Racist said:
1 : a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
2 : racial prejudice or discrimination
— rac·ist Listen to the pronunciation of racist \-sist also -shist\ noun or adjective

Merriam-Webster:Bigot said:
: a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices
; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance
— big·ot·ed Listen to the pronunciation of bigoted \-gə-təd\ adjective
— big·ot·ed·ly adverb

If we're all done with the soapbox, I just posted this because I thought it was chuckle-worthy (if I was being serious, I would have posted in the political section).

That's what I figured, especially remembering his apology tour:biglaugh:

Side note: I absolutely believe that racism goes both way. If I claim that you can't make a black/asian/jewish/etc joke because you're not of that race, that claim itself is racist.

idk some people don't understand that racism does go both ways...I mean, sure some white folks still hate black folks, but it goes the other way when they pull the racist card.

Accuracy? I don't care which one is "worse" - I care which one accurately describes the behavior. And quite honestly, bigotry gives you some of the jokes in King of the Hill and South Park. Racism gives you the Third Reich...

Anyone who doesn't hasn't taken an honest look at people's behavior. I've honestly met just as many vehemently bigoted and racist of other races as I have white people. Regardless of skin tone, people who behave that way are intolerable. Stupid is as stupid does.
