Raced an 00-04? GT last night

Last night pulling away from a light, I noticed a mustang behind my bumper quite close. I had a feeling he was going to pass me trying to be cool, and I don't really race much so I was still debating whether or not to give him a run when he started pulling into the left lane and hammered it(he was in an automatic). His bumper was already at my door when I dropped it from 4th to 2nd and jumped a little ahead of him, I shifted to 3rd and was barely pulling ahead of him while he stayed by my rear wheel. The road was coming to another light and he was starting to pull away when I shifted to 4th and let off. I suppose he beat me..with his little head start.
I follow him 30ft down the road to Wendy's and see it's a silver GT with black racing stripes and the large hoodscoop (I don't know much about them as they come in a billion different colors,hoods,and wheel combinations). I tried to compliment him on his nice sounding car and he didn't seem to interested. I saw the sticker on his window which meant we both went to the same university and he was still being unfriendly :3d_frown: However, he did tell me all he had done was spark plugs, and his transmission was bad... Other than that he said he ran an 8.9 in the 1/8th. I know he had some kind of aftermarket exhaust because of the way it sounded, so hardly just sparkplugs, but maybe some of you with more knowledge on them could chime in.

heh...man mustangs got WHOOPED upon by supras last night...theres a couple of posts on SF about it... heres what I DID last night copy and pasted from SF:

heh....i had a run in with a 2000ish mustang GT last night also.... he had gauges and exhaust as obvious mods.... he started fucking with me (right now my car is just intake and exhaust NOTHING else...) so we go three times and each time i pull him up top to about a car in front....

the third time though.... he blew his shit up lmao he was smoking like crazy so i followed him to make sure he could get home ok etc...im a good sport ..... when he pulled over he was like i think i just blew my transmission which i just had rebuilt hahahaha..... i asked him what he had and he told me a chip, gears, cams, exhaust, intake, and a few other things.....

so looks like mk3s are 2-0 with one blown up mustang to boot last night

oh and he definitley wasnt lying about the chip because we went from about 65-150....and i KNOW mustangs dont go that fast without a chip in them...

EDIT: well i guess mk3s are 3-0 with your kill included

I test drove a 2003 Lexus IS300 yesterday and not 2 minutes after leaving the dealership a kid in a 2000ish GT starts messing with me (probably saw me find out how to turn traction control off when pulling onto the street:biglaugh: ) So he comes up to my right laying all the way into the gas, I was accelerating through 2nd when I saw him so i stayed in 2nd and when he was at my door I punched it at about 4k rpm. It was a short road and we both let off pretty quick, it ended with us side by side, I looked over smiling to give him a thumbs up but he just glanced at the IS then hit the brakes...why are most mustang drivers like that?

a stock mustang won't run an 8.9 in an 1/8. Even with sparkplugs or whatever he said he had. I go to Bama dragway (here in bama) and I seen a 2005 roush mustang and his BEST time was an 8.54. Stock mustangs or even built a little run like 9.5-10.5. He's got a little more under the hood than he's letting on. Just my two cents worth.
I couldn't tell if you won or not, cause you said you were ahead, and then you said that he was pulling ahead of you. So I take it you lost to him. I have not lost to a mustang yet, and this is my second 1991 supra. My other one was COMPLETELY stock and I outran three gt's with it. I will admit(modesty doesn't stop me) that I am a superb driver though.....j.k.........lol

Ya, I did lose at the end. He did get a decent headstart on me and thanks for clearing up the 1/8th time. 8.9 is a decent time to run without major mods done and I wasn't entirely believing he only had plugs done.
