R32 Skyline with a 1J VVTI

I'd be scared to wreck my car if I had any drifting skills at all too... I suppose if you're really serious about winning and have giant trailers and spare cars and pit crews it doesn't matter as much if you lose both your bumpers and dent your quarter panel :sarcasm:

I don't know much about drifting, but at least you made a lot of smoke and didn't crash! The only thing I noticed was that your angle wasn't as sharp as a couple of the cars there :icon_conf but your smokeyness was up there with the best! :naughty: 1JZ FTW! I assume an SR20 would be similar to an RB20 but with even less torque. A lot of 240s seemed like they did a lot worse if their entry speed lowered.

P.S. I'm not sure I can even do a rolling stop with my 7M in 4th gear... but my hatch rattles like I have "big subz yo" if I lug the engine.

Yep, thats the suckiest part of the skyline. I have done EVERY mod possible besides diceing up the strut towers and converting to S13 stuff...... and the car still has LESS mechanical angle than a STOCK s13 with no angle improving mods.

I plan to eleminate the whole upper A-arm design up front and convert to S13 front suspension over the winter. It sounds like a crazy task, but seeing as how the R32 and S13 share lower control arms and tension rods, all that has to be done is some measuring/cutting to run S13/14 spindles, coilovers, hubs, etc. ...then ofcourse the skyline brakes bolt up to the 240 hubs.

...oh god, MORE to do! LOL.

I also want to get a decent (aka not stock) clutch in this thing and make some POWER!

I gotta decide on what clutch to get and what kinda single I wanna do, or if I just want to do a high-flow rebuild on the stock turdblo.

I figure if it is doing OK bone stock, 80 or so more hp will make me a very happy drifty person without sacrificing reliability....

Anybody know anyone with a vvt-i 1J that has an upgraded turbo? I need to know how big of a turbo I can spool really low (like 3000rpms)....

I don't have that much experience with 1JZs but for drifting I'd probably keep the stock twins. They can support a decent psi increase and I'm relatively sure you can get 80 more HP without upgrading the turbo (which includes a lot more than just slapping the turbo on and driving off). The stock twins spool early and I'd imagine that's what you'd want. I bet it's hard to drift in a 240 with a 2.0 4 cylinder and a GT35R keeping the rpms up all the time while doing all the other funky stuff!

Hahaha, thanks Ben.

Yep, I have a medium single on this 1J stock. From what I can decipher, it seems like a similar to but slightly smaller turbo than a CT-26.

It also has the damned ceramic impeller mess like the twins, and my stock RB20 turbo.... so I am scared to go over 12-13lbs with it.

If it is similar enough to the ct-26, I may just see if it can be hi-flowed... all probs solved right there. If that is not possible, I am leaning toward a GT3076r with the (I think) .86 housing (which ever the bigger one is).

That way I can just run a FPR, SAFC, FCD, innovative wide band (already have all this crap laying around), and leave the stock injectors in place. 350ish whp should be doable....

there are bolt on turbos and also bolt on turbos with manifolds that retain the stock turbo location. i've seen upgraded turbos that push about 380hp or so on 1 bar of boost and still retain good response. i think that was paired with the company's upgraded manifold though, not on the stock one. 350hp on the stock manifold is probably very do-able

if you're really interested in 1JZ vvti bolt on parts, let me know. I can get them

ps if you want more angle get a cressida :)

The sound of THAT car in THAT video was half the reason I wanted this danged 1J to start with! ...now I will prob never have a screamer to get the full affect though...

Haha, cressida angle is bind moggling. I hope to get close to that with all this S13 modified knuckle foolishness.

I THINK I may have a solution in the works! Stocky hi-flowed n stuff.

VERY nice car swap. I love it! Very interesting engine swap you decided on but it's a nice setup!
That site has some pretty cool videos as well.

Wow, I didn't know the VVTIs came with singles. I don't know a thing about them, but I expect much additional awesomeness in some form or another next time I see your car =)

Do cressidas have different suspension than MKIIIs or are they the same? That was a crazy video!

yea, the main difference between MKIII suspension and Cressida is that the front suspension on the Cressida is a macpherson strut, similar to a AE86 corolla or MKII. the steering angle is probably very close to that of the S13. the rear is almost identical to the MKIII, except it has shorter, less beefier arms than the Supra... probably better suited for comfort

and it's weird but, for some reason i like the clean gts front end of the r32. i like gtr front better, but i like how sublte the gts is

It's neat to start learning little bits and peices of more serious info about another make of car after only looking at nissan stuff for so long. I catch myself reading about things like you just posted all the time now (what suspension parts interchange between diff toyota models, etc.)

I LOVE cressidas, and I want one, but I would have to go so big with the body/wheel fitment and finding stuff to replace anything I screw up (front swap/body kit stuff) would be HELL.

Thanks for the GTS love. I like the way it looks gts, but I have some janky bends in the tip of the hood (from me trying to remove/install the damn thing by myself and dropping it:1zhelp:), and have been thinking of lopping the nose of the hood off. (Common practice to make a GTS more GTR like). I'm still up in the air though. I just HATE the little exrtra lip thing on the tip of a GTR hood. That thing is HIDEOUS. Some folks drill holes and bolt that shit to their hood after cutting off the end....ew. I would remove it if I owned an actual GTR!

Sorry for the long useless post. I just got in from a 30hr out and back 1000mile trip and I'm sleepy as hell but WIRED... so this is my way of winding back down.

ps. If anyone is near Charlestown West V.A. this saturday, come on out and watch/cheer for us (team weird motor swap) at summit point!

yea i know what you mean. a buddy of ours has an R32 gtr and that weird hood/grill bump is way noticable in person. it's a v-spec ii and the hood emblem looks like a silvia badge!!! i like the gtr grill overall because it's simple and sporty... but i like the seamless look of the gts.. and it kinda resembles the 31's lol

Some pics from an event I did in the rain this weekend. They are the first pics that show the rear over fenders on the car. I just cut the qtrs and slapped em on in the black gel-coat or whatever they came in. Looks like apretty good match, even up close.

There is this other weird/neat pic of my steez that some guy messed with on another forum.

^kinda neat, I guess.

I know my car looks REALLY high off the ground in these pics, but it isn't too bad in person. The toe of an average sneaker will not go under I swear...

It will be getting a smaller diameter front tire and some slamming during the winter re-do.

well just to let you know, yes the symble dose look like one that should be on a Silva, my HCR32 has the same thing, but if you look at the difference between a Skyline Badge and the silvia badge are quite different, i didnt know that my self until i lived here in japan my self for almost a year.

I'm bored so I am posting bout nothing.

Yeah, lots of ppl look at the skyline badge (been off of this one for a while now) and say ohhh, I thought it was a skyline, its a silvia. LOL.

Car has finally had a bit of trouble, but just a random sensor going bad or something so I am not complaining.

I have a whole bunch of pics on my home comp, as soon as I get back to MD, I will post some stuff up.

Car is still 4x4 status but as soon as these 225-40-18s wear out up front, I will be going to a 235-35-18 which is almost 1" shorter overall. That half inch of height decrease plus some lowering ability afforded to me by the extra clearance, and she will be jussstttt where I want. The kit on the car has survived almost a yr with nary a chip so I am doing something WRONG.
