I don't think you can buy them new anymore, and even if you could it'd be crazy expensive. Best bet is a used one, expect to pay anywhere from $400-$600

:wtf:

Anyways, if you had checked the FAQ/tech tips section you would have seen this thread on the first page
http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58308

It's heavy, probably around 110 pounds. Even without oil, it's about as heavy as the stock auto.

I thought the solstice was a 6spd?

yes you can buy them new from toyota for like 1800 without bell housing and the shifter linkages IIRC.

Solsti are 5 speeds, I don't think the AR5 and the R154 are exactly the same transmission, even with swapped bell housings I doubt they would bolt up interchangeably.

i thought you could buy them new still... they should've been on 1jz's for a while.. it would be like not having the v160 built anymore. they are like 1500$? *shrug*

the autos are friggan heavy. i could do the manual no prob but the autos are heavy heavy... especially the 2jzgte autos

I'm not saying this with any certainty, just going off of what I've observed when I've seen a Solstice on the lift, and my Supra. From a quick glance didn't really look like it would be a bolt on affair, then again maybe the modifications needed aren't that hard either.

yeah I was agreeing that they weren't the same. I thought this was confirmed by a solsti owner already.

R154
This is a robust 5-speed transmission found in the MKIII Supra Turbo and Toyota Soarer (turbo) up to 2001. It is also reported to have been used in Isuzu truck applications, as well as the Pontiac Solstice.

Sorry digging information about this from the web maybe the center portion is the same just with diffrent tailshaft and bellhousing:dunno:

yeah for all intents and purposes those may be the only differences and perhaps its code remains R154 even though I think the tailshaft should negate that.

then again we already had a few variations of the R154 through supras, soarers and the like.

There's a HUGE thread on this already. The Solstice transmission IS made by Aisin, and IS similar to the R154, but it has a different spline input, different tail shaft, different shift linkage, different gear ratios, different synchros.

Aside from bellhousing bolt pattern, and general size, they're completely different. There was a guy that modded one in to a Supra though.

As for teh Solstice having a 6 speed, people may be thinking of the GXP model.

yeah thats what I figured.. someone told me it was completely different but I didn't wanna say so without being sure.
