I was doing some research and noticed that the R150 5-speed transmission had better gear ratios than the R154. I also found that it will bolt right up to the 1JZ bellhousing! But what I couldn't find is whether or not it would fit under the supra or how much HP it could handle.

I don't know, with my 4.10 rear end, I would much rather have the gears farther appart. Of course, I could solve that with a 3.90.

If you want to replace your R154 with an R150, you'll have to find a 2WD version from 96 on. 96 and earlier have input shafts that are shorter and won't work with the R154 bellhousing.

Got this pic from the web. Thanks to the original poster.

the higher the number the shorter the gear....

like a 4.30 has a WAY lower top speed than a 3.73 rear end

so in the link i posted.....1 2 3 gear are all shorter in the 150 vs the 154

4th gear are both 1:1 ratio

and 5th in the 154 is longer as well

so all the gears are shorter.....so with a 4.30 rear end in a r154 would be pretty close to a R150 and a 3.73 rear end roughly. you can compensate by putting in a 4.30 on the R154 instead of swapping trannies....
