i have an 88' 7m-t 5spd and have just have been noticing that my 1st and 3rd gears grind real bad. the day before it wasnt grinding in gear at all. it goes into gear just when it is it grinds. 1st is a slower grind and 3rd is faster. when my clutch is out it makes a bad bearing noise which i believe is the throwout bearing but im not 2 sure. so with that said could it possibly be the clutch system or is the tranny out?

o yea i forgot to mention that its not all the time. some times it will be just fine. no real pattern at all

it is the throw out bearing sounds to me like your missing teeth on 1st and 3rd gear time for a rebuild its only going to get worse and eventually pop out and you definitely dont want that

would it make a differeance if i hear the noise only when the clutch is out and in neutral? when i put the clutch in it goes away.

yea i wouldnt call it a grinding noise but somethin like that. i think it sounds more like a bad bearing noise that a scooter or roller skates would have.

How is a throwout bearing and broken gears have any relation to eachother?!?!

Think before you speak!

I'm willing to bet that the trans is fine as well as the throwout bearing....just sounds like the pp isn't compleatly letting go of the clutch disk causing it to continue to spin....that spinning will give an audible rumble which is the bearings spinning inside the transmission....

Op...please just do me a favor and adjust your clutch pedal per tsrm specs! Your pedal should only have about 3/4" of free play and then you should feel resistance from the pressure plate....if you can jiggle the pedal with your hand more than an inch then adjust.

missing gears sounds pretty extreme for an intermittent problem but its doin what your saying its doin. did your friend have that issue all the time?

yea it did it all the time until the sound got unbearable and we ripped it out it started when he couldnt go into third and would have to bang third for it to go in and then it got worse from there on in obviously his tranny was mistreated ehich i would never do to my car but hey to each his own do you notice anything besides the sound any miss shifts at all or finding it hard to go into any gear
