all of this was done outside on a gravel driveway. I had to use my truck to pull the engine crane around..........:aigo:

working in gravel sucks. im glad im not the only thats used a truck to pull an engine host, i had to do it about a year ago. that was a redneck moment for sure. getting a house an asphalt driveway and garage has been the best thing ive done.

Jay, I also owe you a great big thanks. I was just about to lose my mind when you called. And as soon as I heard you say what to do on the phone, I felt like a real dumb ass, becasue it was so obvious as soon as I heard someone eles say it. Im no chef, but could I intrest you in a box of oreos? Maybe a couple pounds of real canadian bacon? Again, Thank you for the call. I think the tranny was in about 25 mins after adam spoke with you.

As for changing the tranny out on the ground, knowing what I know NOW, I wouldnt hesitate to do it again. A lift would be nice, but I dont think I could pay a shop to change my clutch for me, seeing how it can be done right Adam? Besides, other than our one problem, it was all pretty easy.

PS, Adam I got my nexus card despite all the problems I had crossing the boarder on Saturday :D

If you guys told me what you had installed first, it would have been obvious why the trans wouldn't go in. lol Nice to see it up and running.

Next meet Adam, bring your ride. :)

Lol Daryl. Duane, we didn't think that that was the problem. Oh well, live and learn. I also learned something else, disconnect the reverse light sensor when the tranny gets dropped to the ground and connect it before you put the tranny up in place. I cut my sensor wires in the process of removing the tranny and I ended up extending the wires a couple inches after I installed the tranny (and burned the hell out of my hand in 4 places while doing so thanks to a glob of molten solder). And yes Duane, I plan on bringing my ride with me for the next meet. Come next week the Supra is my DD until the clutch is broken in (498 city miles to go). Which reminds me, I need to replace a liscense plate light (I probably have 3 spares in my room).

Yeah we're reinstalling an r154 on our 89' T and we bolted the clutch up to the engine even after reading the tsrm which said u have to put the clutch in the bellhousing. There was no reason why they wanted us to put it in the bellhousing. Since i've done W58s so much i was like whatever that's pointless. Now i know why! it's impossible to install the tranny to the engine with the clutch in the way! no room. LOL so I'm gonna say Fuck that! I'm pulling the engine! Make it alot easier and more fun, I like pulling 7Ms!

If it's just you like it was for me it's annoying.

Hey i don't know what u mean by that? About the r154 compared the w58, Yeah it's one hell of a PITA to put in. Well i guess it wouldn't be so bad with the clutch on the input shaft first, but the pain of using a torque wrench on the clutch housing bolts in that Tight space just makes me sick thinking about it. I think it would be much more fun to just pull the engine in 30min, Bolt the transmission to it, then reinstall it, May take about 2-3 hours compared to 4 or so possibly. I have no sense of time when i'm working though, before i know it, It's been 8 hours. lol anyway...

Tranny jack and following the TSRM I can drop the tranny quite fast and put it back on without a hassle...

Takes longer to get the car up high enough than it does to drop the tranny...

You have to tighten each pressure plate bolt a little at a time, then rotate the engine by hand to get to the next bolt. If you're by yourself you have to tighten a bolt, rotate the crank, then tighten another bolt. If you're doing in with the Supra on jack stands it's annoying because you have to slide to the front to rotate the crank, then slide back to tighten a PP bolt. This can be a long and annoying process.

Wasn't too bad, I used the large 1/2" ratchet with a flex head on the crank bolt so I didn't have to slide back and forth...
