I have never heard of a R154 having problems due to power levels - only sudden applications of high/jerking power like drag race launches.

Nash, Maybe contact Marlin Crawler. They are the best people to go at Toyota transmissions like, ever. They are based in California, But i'm Sure you can get some beefy gears for an R series to work with an R154

I've heard reports that Will Neely could peel the teeth off the stock gears at will, with just under 750 trq.

Someone from Aussie land - IJ, I think, once reported on a company doing straight cut or dog toothed gears, not sure which, it's been a long time.

maybe somebody could test an old junk one with 5th gear still usable? Just fix a long lever to the input shaft, weld the output to something to make it solid, mount the front, put it in fifth and see how much torque it takes to break it? Then look at where it breaks. Calculating torque isnt that hard.

If he wants a tranny that will take a 800 tq beating and live, tell him to look into a T56 if he wants a manual.

Otherwise, Lenco or Jericho

I think the thrust washer is the main problem... the teeth/gears look pretty damn beefy to me, compared to this damn T5 GM I have sitting here. It's going to be the initial shock (launch) from a TT SBC that kills the transmission. Unless he wants to go through tranny after tranny, I'd look into a T56 or a V160, if he wants to stay away from aftermarket.
