Ok, so im driving home today, and i stop for gas. i start pulling out in first and it pops out... so im like wtf, i threw it in second and it was fine. well started gettin closer to home, and it did it again, and again,,,,and ,,,,,again. so ive pretty much come to the conclusion that my first gear synchro's is bad. now i have two choices at this point, either
1. I buy the new synchros and have someone put it in. or
2. i Swap in the Other r154.

regardless i will need someone with a lift to do both so i am kinda fucked either way. does anyone know how much a new synchros is, and how much of a bitch it is to replace. its only first gear.

First off, you won't need a lift to drop the tranny. You need four jack stands, a floor jack, the required tools, and an extra set of hands will help; but, isn't necessary.

Second, you don't want to go through all the work of dropping and disassembling the tranny to rebuild first gear. That's just stinking thinking. ;)

Buy the rebuild kit from Driftmotion, drop the tranny, and bring it to a tranny shop and have them rebuild the whole thing. If you feel that you're mechanically advanced enough, you can save yourself some bucks and go rent the required tools to disassemble the tranny and rebuild it yourself.

Another piece of GREAT advice is DO NOT disassemble the transmission, forget where things go or how to put it back together, and THEN bring it to a tranny shop.

Most shops will probably turn you away and IF one is daring enough to take the challenge, there is a good chance that it won't go back together correctly.

And then, depending on the condition of your clutch, throwout bearing, etc... THEN is a good time to replace those items also.

There should be a new clause in the TOS "If you do something dumb, even when people told you it was dumb and you did it anyway, you will be banned for a week"

Moral of the story, going through all the trouble of pulling the trans and pulling it apart just to fix 1st gear is DUMB.

Sorry for the bluntness, but DAMN.

OK how's this? You take the spare trans, and get it rebuilt. Then you swap out your broken one. Now, get that rebuilt, and then give it to me. Then everybody's happy!

1) Grab one from Marlin Crawler, then send yours in for the core charge.

2) Never worry about your transmission failing. (Well, I don't want to say never, but you'd REALLY have to abuse a MC rebuilt R154 to kill it)

i had first pop out at one time.
The shifter was loose where it is bolted in the tranny under the shifter boot. Check this first. may save you a rebuild.
well i guess you will have to check it anyway to pull the tranny...

Hey dude, any clue what it costs to buy one from MC? I was digging in their site, and I can figure out shipping, but there doesn't seem to be a price listed for the actual transmission.

Yep, it's between $12-1400 shipped as of the last time I checked. :) That's the route I'm going for sure!

Yep. Same here. I may do one this summer. I'll have to check on the short shifter. Any idea how much that costs?

I believe that the shortshifter is included in the price.
