Ok, got it. Anyone know how much torque the R154 can take? You guys think it will be able to hold say... 650, 700, 750 tq?

well now as far as that goes... im pretty sure it could w/stand all that tq... ive seen alot of thread being posted of going 600 hp and above so you or any body should know that tq isnt too far behind or maybe even more from what hp goal your trying to get at...

R154

This is a robust 5-speed transmission found in the MKIII Supra Turbo and Toyota Soarer (turbo) up to 2001.

Ratios:

* First Gear: 3.250:1
* Second Gear: 1.955:1
* Third Gear: 1.310:1
* Fourth Gear: 1.00:1
* Fifth Gear: 0.753:1

Probably about as much as the stock bottom end of your 1J can handle. Btw, 7 speed? Sign me up! :biglaugh:

Uhm....900hp? haha i think not. the 1JZ holds more than you think. It's not horsepower that kills transmissions, it's torque.

and by the way....

Solstice R154 tranny FTW!

lets see 700ft lbs of tq with a 1j then we can talk about the clutch before the tranny...that is if youre not running a twin disc already. The trans is the least of your worries. The reason they say 1j engine and tranny is so you dont get confused. Even though you can use a 7m clutch, theyre different.

I have been trying to get my buddy down here in Florida to get on the forums. We built his car to 946rwhp, the only thing that was upgraded were the pistons and those are still forged from factory. Why do you think the 1JZ bottom end wont hold? There are guys on the forums here and there doing 800+ on the stock bottom end. In Japan and Australia it has been done before and ran strong. Just build it right, balance and blueprint it with some good perfect tolerances. Why is the 1JZ inferior to the 2JZ? just because of .5L? Dont you trust Toyota's engineers? In any case, I have no physical proof, but I am trying to get my buddy on the forums so that he can post all the data for you gear heads out there, and if you go to the Australian forums I'm sure you can find your man without too much difficulty.

How is that backup? It's not that I'm think you guys are lying but until there is some evidence, I'm in a state of nonbelief. Don't misunderstand. That just means I have no reason to believe you are either right or wrong.

That's a serious claim and without any evidence, you can't really expect people to just take your word for it.

It doesn't matter if 100 people come on here and say such a car exists. With no evidence, it's an irrelevant claim as far as I'm concerned.

Its not back up, but another person with the same claim to fame. I appreciate OneJoeZee that you believe me and all you want is proof, but as I stated before.

"In any case, I have no physical proof, but I am trying to get my buddy on the forums so that he can post all the data for you gear heads out there, and if you go to the Australian forums I'm sure you can find your man without too much difficulty."

This topic is going to turn into a, "Give me the proof or shove-off the forums!" I'm not here to piss anyone off, I'm just giving my experience. I have built a total 8 1JZ motors, not much, and I'm young, but that is the experience I know and only one out of the eight are close to 1000hp on stock bottom. I'm sure if I owned a shop but didnt post a single dyno sheet, you'd take my word for it, but I dont have recognition nor the proof. I share my experience with you all, and you can take it as you want to. I respect that and I dont blame you at all for asking, "where's the proof!?" So as of now, I stand corrected, but my opinion stands cause I'm entitled to it.

This car with the stock 1JZ engine is matted to a stock R154 transmission.
So, I bumped this thread so everyone can get their answers about how much a stock
1JZ can hold and how much torque/power can hold the stock robust R154 5speed transmission!

STOCK 1JZ 906rwhp
Just a curious day at the shop and a great outcome.
Stock 1jz with stock head and cams.
71mm bw t4 125 rear housing large turbine wheel.
125 zex shot.

Microtech lt16

Total of 4 runs over 900hp and 4 over 800hp. Still running strong and next will be the track!

Here is the link on the other forum where was posted.
