How much power/ torque do you guys think the R154 can safely handle with a good driver and someone who doesn't constantly beat on it?

This is kind of off the subject, but in looking for a new clutch I found this and it confused me. The R154 is the 1J transmission right? I found this on a site advertising a RPS twin disc clutch.

"This is made to fit a 1JZ-GTE motor and a 1JZ-GTE transmission. It does not fit the 7M-GTE R154 Supra transmission. Picture here is of a Twin Disc for the 1993-98 Supra TT."

The transmissions are the same on the 7M and 1JZ, but the bellhousing is different. My guess is there's not enough clearance in the 1JZ bellhousing to fit the twin disc.

Get the RPS 3200lb pressure plate, and their RPS MAX single disc clutch.

AS for the transmission holding the power, there's no definite to how much power the tranny can hold. It CAN hold a lot. It's not worth trying to fit something else in there, you might as well stick with the R154, and try it out. Worst case scenario, you break it, get another R154 for cheap, and get it built.

-The clutch is for the 1JZ, not the 7M tranny.

-I'm looking for something with multiple discs. How much tq. will that setup you mentioned hold?

-I didn't have any intentions of replacing the R154 with anything elses. I was just curios to see what kind of torque the thing could support.

I come from a land down under
Depends on your driving style and intended use of the car....

800ft/lbs hooking on sticky drag rubber is very different to the same Tq off a fast corner on low profile rubber..

Then why did I find this quote on MVP Motorsports that this clutch will fit the 1J tranny but not the 7M tranny? Are they just wrong?

Ok well Supracharged88 is saying the bell housings are the same size and AZN MK3 is saying they are different sizes. So are they the same size or different sizes? I understand what your saying AZN MK3... I'm not a moron, but Supracharged88 says the housings are the same size and said, "Any M7 clutch will work with a 1jz". Is this right or wrong?

Probably about as much as the stock bottom end of your 1J can handle. Btw, 7 speed? Sign me up! :biglaugh:
