A fair amount of oil dumped out of my tranny when I was putting my engine back in. Which plug is the oil-level bolt?

I thought it was the large bolt, 1/2 way up the tranny, near where the tranny mounts to the body. But, that bolt is Super tight. I wasn't sure, so I wanted to check before I really yanked on it.

the fill and drain plugs always seem to be really tight...

I use a jack (not kidding) to push up on a wrench to pop them free...

IIRC that is the bolt though, it's gonna be about the same size as the drain bolt...

Don't tighten it so much when you are done.
Make it easier next time.

Yea, but either way (from the top or fill plug) that fill plug is going to have to come out.

I prefer to do it under the vehicle, gear oil does not make a good car air freshener.

me, I fill from the top. doesn't smell and is far easier than using the fill plug. 3qts did mine perfect. redline mt-90 was my oil of choice.
